Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Don't know what to believe when it comes to the report about TW not wanting to play for the Skins ever again.
What I do know is that we are obviously NOT in rebuild mode. We drafted a QB 15th overall. We strengthened our D (ok losing Reuben Foster sucks, but still). We have a strong backfield. We finally have an effin LG ! TW is a beast. He's our top player year in and year out. We need a strong OL to protect our young QB. Pay. The. Guy. We've made a decent job building this roster from the trenches the last couple of years... don't throw away the keystone to its foundations now !

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Sheehan made a great point yesterday:
If Trent were not on our team and a free agent, would we sign him to the contract that he wants? Sheehan's answer, when i agree with, was No. You don't make a 31 year old injury-prone player, one mistake away from a 1 year suspension, the highest paid LT in the league. You just don't.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I know he's 31 but he still has 3-4 great years of ball left, it's not easy finding an ELITE Tackle, we have been lucky to do so over the years but that well will run dry soon.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Very frustrating.. still no official word from Williams on the whole fiasco.. friends/teammates speaking for him.. Man up look the camera in the eye and tell it like it is ! It’s not like we aren’t used to this teams front office screwing stuff up. I would feel better if he has some legit issues with med staff vs some kinda ploy to get a new contract .. we have a poll started to keep or trade him and nobody has heard from Trent .. maybe he will issue a statement 😳

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
From Keim
Leftover observations from minicamp: 1) The Redskins absolutely need Trent Williams back, which should be obvious. It's very hard to measure the play of the OL or DL without pads, but it's hard to imagine Ereck Flowers being a viable option at this point. I'm not sold on him as a LG, but we'll see more in camp; poor technique at one spot doesn't turn into good technique at another.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Can't recall who in the media said it just recently but they said nobody in recent memory has looked worse in OTA's than Flowers. Dude is just garbage, get him the heck outta here.

Lets also put it like this, if Trent is not there by week 1, we are doomed. He's the most valuable player on our offense and I ask anyone here to tell me why that is not the truth.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Peters and Whitworth are both 37 and still playing well. Can't tell me Trent can't play well for at least the next 3 seasons. I'd look to give him a 2 year extension to resolve this mess but that's it.

I tend to lean towards not just giving Trent a really big extension as he has trended towards routinely missing a quarter of the season due to injury or suspension. I would rather pay the guy Schreff entering his prime. Let the Trent situation die down a bit...add a year and some guaranteed money. If this is over several million from being a top 3 paid OT in the league...try to find away. ...Id would totally do what Sheehan suggested, call Donald Penn and do a one year deal soon and cut Flowers
