Admirals is too Navy. Nothing against semen... but I don't see them naming the team after a rank from one branch of the military and alienating the other five.

It would be Commanders over Admirals or Generals or Privates...

Coming back to say a final goodbye to you all. It's been awhile since I've posted, but if the new name is any of these generic ass military ranks, I'm out for good. I have no connection with the military, despise the forever wars and want no part of rooting for a team that celebrates that. Yeah I appreciate the sacrifice and bravery of the individual men, but fuck the federal government, and for that matter if it's the Monuments, fuck that too. The soul of DC had never belonged to them, this team represented the regular people that lived there, not the fucking oligarchs or their genocidal powers. Redwolves, War hogs, or something else we could build a fun identity or give a nod to the old, I'd have been there for. I have them a chance to do this right, but they've of course failed again. This franchise is over, and Dan Snyder asking with the SJWs have destroyed it. I wish you all the best, and I'm sad as shit this is over, but it's time to move on from this abusive relationship. Hail to the Redskins!

It's like I'm in too deep now to really be able to switch favorite teams. What happens if in 5 years somehow they magically win the super bowl, and they aren't my team anymore? It will never happen with Shithead, but it's just another reason why this will always be my team. Invested too much shitty time to leave. And I know that's a terrible excuse to stay in a relationship, but it's true here.

I agree, I don't want anyone that posts here remotely regularly to leave this site, even if they switch teams.

G1 and me typically argue like Giants and Redskins fans, but I'd be bummed if he left (hopefully he doesn't read this).

I'll still root for the team because I can't root for any other one, and I'll still come to this site because there's no better place to talk ball.

In the end I think the only thing that changes is that I won't spend a dime on this franchise if the name is a boring military one. No way I spend 100$+ on a Commanders jersey. No way I spend God knows the F how much to travel to an empty/filled with opposing fans stadium to root for a team with no identity, no fight song, nothing for the fans to get together and cheer...

I feel you. Truth be told, I don't think I can root for another team either. Football has always been a passion, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that as a culture we've divorced ourselves from personal responsibility expecting society/government to solve our problems for us so that we can focus our time, money, and energy on entertaining ourselves. Hence the exorbitant money actors, musicians, and athletes make while our elders are shoved into 100 sq ft rooms alone cared for by people that don't know or really care about them (although many are good people but are not given the resources to do their jobs well). Anyways, I'm trying to change in this regard personally, and the Redskins was one thing I really had a hard time letting go of. Football is a beautiful sport, and I hate to let it go, but it's hard to watch these days anyways, it's one long commercial for corporations that have destroyed small business and taken jobs from our citizens because they are propped up by big government and or commercials for the military. Ethically, it has become difficult to support the NFL, and it's nearly impossible to ignore. So, I was wavering anyways, and ultimately the nostalgia, the comradery, and the love of the sport/fandom attached to this franchise kept me around, but ignoring the fans vote because of the cost is too much for me to get past. I also suspect that there are corporate implications that have steered the decision. Those that sponsor the team likely had more say than the fans. So fuck them. They can have their team. I'm going to focus my energy in things I can control and will no longer live by "their" whims when it comes to my passions. I will pop in occasionally to cheer you all on if the team accomplishes anything. I love this community and appreciate sharing my passion with you all for so many years.

That is overreacting a bit. Just ignore what they call them and you go on calling them the Redskins and only buy Redskins gear (if you buy). The latter actually hits the NFL and Snyder in the pocket as Redskins gear is now only sold by independent businesses.
