Not a chance he starts as long as McCain in healthy.

They like to play 3 safety formations so unless Forrest starts to look good I am not sure who else they have.

I'm glad we drafted Howell, I like him. I thought he would be gone by 2nd round but then many of us thought a few other QBs would be drafted in 1st round lol..

Howell has a nice arm but he needs work on his techniques. For those who are interested, Kurt Warner made a couple of nice breakdown videos of Howell on YouTube. I think it will be a good test for our QB coach, whoever that is.

The plus about having Howell is that if things go south for Wentz, at least we can sort of look forward to him taking over (to see what he's got) as opposed to having to endure Heinecke again.

On a serious note, I'm glad they got a developmental QB, definitely thought it was a smart move.

I wanted Howell and they got him!! I feel he’s the best of the bunch and we got a steal. Hopefully won’t be long before he takes over Wentz spot.

I hope that the drafting of Howell breathes life into Dyami Brown. If Dyami can begin to show what he did at UNC, adding him to the McLaurin, Dotson, Samuel trio could be very potent.

I think there's still a (small) chance we will bring Collins back.. I don't believe he will find a team that will play him as a starter and we are probably the next best available for him because we play 3 safeties often.

I hope they don't bring him back. Play young guys that can run and cover. He can't do either. He is the worst safety I have ever seen once he gets out in space. He may be big and strong but he has zero agility. Dave Gettlemen knew what was up when he made no attempt to re-sign him.

Sam Howell just may be our starter in 2023. That may have been the steal of the draft. He's going to need a year, I hope they play him a ton in pre season. Cause once Wentz has a bad game the fans will be calling for Howell. We know how that goes in this town.. lol.

Howell reminds me a lot of Heinicke, but with a much better arm. Wouldn't surprise me if Scott Turner had a lot of input with that pick.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

NFL(.com) has NFCE draft grades on their homepage. I would post the link, but I'm sure you guys aren't trying to sign up for the Sunday Ticket right now.

We got the worst grade - Grade C

It's the one word you never want to hear as a fantasy drafter. The judgmental utterance that, when hurled in your direction, instantly elicits pangs of remorse and self-doubt. REACH!! In the wake of last week's reality draft, Commanders brass have taken an R-word onslaught for a number of their picks. Adding fuel to the fire: Washington's first two picks were both caught off guard by how highly they were taken. Dotson was watching the NBA playoffs and "couldn't believe it at first" when he got the call from Ron Rivera. "We were kind of thinking later first, early second," the No. 16 overall pick said, per NBC Sports Washington. Washington's second-rounder was even more surprised: "Oh, man -- I was thinking at least third, somewhere in the third or fourth round," Mathis said, via The Athletic. "That was just feedback we were getting. So, it most definitely wasn't expected early." Well, alright then. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the Commanders' value assessment -- coming from the draftees themselves! Washington GM Martin Mayhew has heard the REACH chorus, and he's not having it: "We understand our needs and what we need as a football team much better than people on the outside looking in." One value pick we can all agree on: Howell at No. 144. Heading into the 2021 college season, the North Carolina quarterback was being discussed as a potential top-10 pick. But without the services of Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome -- all of whom went in the 2021 NFL Draft -- Howell and the Heels didn't enjoy the kind of season many predicted. That said, Howell was still the only FBS quarterback to eclipse 3,000 yards passing and 800 yards rushing in 2021. For a franchise that still has serious questions at the game's most important position, taking a fifth-round stab on a 21-year-old with 37 college starts under his belt is smart drafting.
