Well I will say this...The term "BEAST" really does apply to this guy.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

I've been a harsh critic of the Cerrato regime however this would be signing, while costly stands in stark contrast (right now) to previous mishaps. While I won't argue that the redskins are learning, after all Hanesworth is arguably the sexiest name out there, I would argue that this signing could be the best yet.

Albert is young and is the best DT in the game. Perhaps more important is what he's not, which is old and a skill position player. The past few years have seen us try to rush to overpay sexy names at sexy position (Llyod, Randel el, Jason Taylor, Archuleta, Duckett, D. Sanders, Bruce smith, etc), defensive tackle has to be the least sexy position that isn't special teams. More importantly, DT is (in my opinion) is the most important position on the defensive side of the ball (games are won and lost on the both lines, give me a great lines and average everything else and we'll win games). Elite run stoppers demand double teams freeing up DEs, LBs and blitzing Safeties to make plays. This would be a great move.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

Thanks to being the Redskins, I think the fact that there's no impact player on this defense has gone unnoticed for too long. Haynesworth is a real impact player. But he alone doesn't make us a lock for the playoffs, so we'll see. If Blache doesn't change his habits, we won't get a single dollar of value out of this.

I think he will though, it's really hard to act like a defensive coordinator and not realize you have Albert Haynesworth at nose.

GTripp if/when this signing becomes finalized I expect a full analysis about how we can adjust our defensive scheme, especially on the d-line, to maximize our gaudy new talent

Not so fast. John Clayton reported earlier today that every team will be in the mix for this guy. There are obviously going to be teams that are more serious about landing him- the Lions, Bucs, and Skins are front runners at this point. The only concern about him would be minor injuries.

yeah cuz i've got a feeling there could be several possible combinations wrt personnel, even just on the d-line, and who wants to waste a bunch of time hypothesizing about things we're just not sure of... LOL.

I don't know quite honestly. First, I'll just say that am not, nor have ever claimed to be, a cap expert. So let's just put the whole dollars implication aside for a minute and talk about his impact on the field.

The biggest concern I have about Haynesworth is that he rarely, if ever, plays a full season. I know we all like to bash Springs for his fragility but the guy's a warrior compared to Haynesworth. That said, when he is on the field you can't deny his impact. Blache has long (well at least since last year) insisted that we (he) need an impact defensive tackle to make everything else work easier. It helps the pass rushers, it helps the linebackers, it helps the defensive backs. That's kind of common knowledge I suppose. Last year at this time I really thought and hoped that this off-season our biggest free agent move would be Tommie Harris. I'd take him any day of the week.

I think we absolutely need an Albert Haynesworth type player, but not sure if Haynesworth is the answer.

And, of course, we have to step back and see to what extent are they addressing other needs. For me the biggest needs this offseason were youth on the offensive line, linebacker help, youth on the exterior of the defensive line, a dominant presence on the interior to complement Montgomery, and a young, quick running back. Unless Alridge or Dorsey emerges, I'm going to guess we won't be improving much at running back. But I think we can still help our OL and linebacker positions with smart drafting and hoping (some would say hoping against hope) that Rinehart and I guess Devin Clark step up.

End of the day, I would say no to this move if I were to look at this move only. He's so dominating when he wants to be, but for the investment we're expected to make in him he needs to be dominating even when he doesn't want to be.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

BrunellMVP, good post and very good points.

GTripp, excellent point as well. I think it's on the defensive coaching staff to make sure we maximize the potential of AH, and up to a certain point Jason Taylor. Haynesworth will have the opportunity to be at our training camp, learn our system, and hopefully along the way the coaching staff will make sure we use his talents. I think the same goes for JT, we have him now for an entire offseason, so the coaching staff needs to find a way to put his skills to use. How? I don't know, I'm not a defensive coach, however, Blache and his staff need to figure this out.

An agent earlier today was saying that he gets the feeling that this off-season there will be a really wide gap between the have and have-nots. Not in terms of the teams but the players. That it seems like the top players will get boatloads of money invested in them, but the middle of the road guys won't see the same kind of dollars they've seen in years past.

Ditto a million times over. I just saw on PFT that his contract is likely to take up $15 mill in cap space per year... the only way i could be comfortable w/ this signing is if the contract is extremely incentive based but i know damn well Albert wouldn't go for it and our FO won't demand it.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

This will go down as the worst move in not only Redskins history but NFL history. I don't want Haynesworth. Sign Hall, resign Evans, resign M Washington. Keep JT and pay him 8.5, do not trade Rogers, sign Canty. As far as Haynesworth, I Just got a bad feeling about this move if it's true. I don't care how good this guy is. He is not worth the risk or the $$$

I saw the same thing. This is definitely not a "Done Deal".
