Re: Jason Taylor Released

Yeah Crowell is a huge risk... sort of similar to the DE we had as a backup part of the last year (name?). I think some people aren't facing reality: there's very little LB talent left in FA... the younger/healthier guy June is too small. The rest are pretty questionable SO WHOEVER WE BRING ON IS EITHER FOR DEPTH OR A SPOT STARTER. Sorry for yelling. Meanwhile Evans, surprise, is listed right near the top in DE talent left in FA. Sign Evans tonight. Keep Daniels on at vet min for an insurance policy and because he's an important locker room leader. Bottom line: we basically have to come away from the draft w/ a legit starter at LB.

This is the way I see the defense... and btw Orakpo ain't falling to us @ 13 and it's for the best. Kid has phenom physique but will be oft injured in the NFL...

I think you can make the argument that even after adding Haynesworth, Hall and Dockery that we aren't any better than our opening day roster last year now that we have lost Taylor, Springs and Washington (also assuming that Kendall is gone).

A whole lot of money spent and nothing to show for it...
Ah ha. Another advocate for bringing Marcus back Can't agree w/ you on Springs and Taylor though as neither contributed much last year.

... and we will be more talented on both sides of the ball come opening day

I think just their age and durability issues as they get older make Dockery and Hall improvements over Kendall and Springs. That doesn't even include Washington's issues staying healthy. And Haynesworth is arguably better than all of them combined at this point in their career.

But yeah, the experiment failed with Jason Taylor. But now we got to make some pina colada out of this coconut and take advantage of these $8 million we have.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

I could see the FO being a more realistically short-sided than they have been. We've signed a good bunch of younger FA talent. We'll prob sign two of these three DEs:

Daniels- 36
Evans- 29
Bert Berry- 34 (Arizona)

hell, maybe all three. gives us experience and depth for not too much money, and leaves more room to address the OL/LB spots

... it's not like Evans has much wear and tear on him either.

I definitely agree that long term it is better to have Dock and Hall but as far as talent and production at this moment it is probably a wash.

I just think that if you look big picture you can't say that the 2009 Redskins have a significant advantage in talent over the 2008 team. Of course we expect JC and the second year receivers to improve but still...

Danny and Vinny are going to have to win me back over with the Taylor cap space.

I would NOT sign Dainels for my life Goat, even if for the vet min. Evans is tricky give that he's 30 and we don't know what he's asking for at Ashburn, if its a crazy contract let him go to SF. I would offer Evans a 2yr 6 mil deal w/ a 2 mil in incentives and let him be the starter. I'm betting Orakpo will fall to us at 13, but we take Oher instead.

I'm saying this now, don't be surprised if we bring in peppers snyderatto is thinking right now " hey we already got the biggest difference making DT that will free up or DLineman, and the giants just beafed up their dlineman so let's one up them and get peppers because with him and haynesworth, how can we be stopped, we'll be getting sacks left and right"

Because there are not better DE's that are available and fit into our system at the price. I'd like to have added Canty instead, but that aint possible now, is it?
Kendall as a back up guard is a good thing. Not a long term deal, but a hell of an insurance policy with Thomas coming off that neck surgery.
I still think we draft a guard with our 3rd pick and hope he and/or Rienhart develop.
Not much of a crop at LB to pick from. Crowell at least is familiar with the coaches and players. Again this could be addressed with our 1st draft pick.
OT (see above)

In short, there are not a lot of young, up and coming, players out there as FA's. We got 2 (or if you count Dock, 3) of the best available. We still get to draft another with our first pick. We need to fill in the remaining gaps in our depth with experienced, affordable, vets that fit our system.

What is wrong with Daniels? You would rather have Chris Wilson and Buzzbee than him? I wouldn't at least not right now.

Unless something bad happens to Orakpo between now and the draft, he's projected to get picked top 10, and Oher or smith or both are projected to go later than 13 , like 15-20

I wouldn't put anything past Synder, but either one would fill a starter role for 1-2 yrs, and we can sign a FA or draft a LB in the '10 draft.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Here's some info on Burnett. It appears the Raiders are looking at him. If this is correct, and i'm not sure it is, he appears a little light, but he played really well in a backup role and is looking to go somewhere where he can start. FOX Sports on MSN: Kevin Burnett, Linebacker, NFL
