Re: How far can Beck take us?

We need a really big step forward from the O line this year.

Speaking of the big boys in front of Beck or Grossman did anyone see the Trent Williams interview today?

That guy is really articulate and it seems like his head is in the right place for him to continue to grow and grow into a top flight player. Hopefully.

I don't know if this has been posted yet but this doesn't give me a shred of confidence that our offense won't remain stagnant.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

This year has shown a profound departure from recent years gone by. In the old Snyder/Cerrato days we'd have Franklin, Jenkins Holmes and Namdi watching scrubs till Thursday, wondering about the well-paid ass whupping they'd signed up for.
This years signings have almost all been well thought out and address needs and character, aside from the curious obsessiveness at WR and RB (Donte Stallworth? Really?).
My biggest worry is O-line depth (please, just say no to a Stephon Heyer re-signing) One or two injuries leads to whomever suits up at QB landing in a body bag. I've no great faith in Grossman, but at least he knows the system - Clements, not so much. If the line can stay healthy and keep Beck upright I see no reason we can't win 8 this year.

The Eagles are in win now mode.
AND...........it seems rather obvious to me.........

What schedule are you reading?

If you rank the teams' schedules based on the win/loss record from last year, the Redskins schedule is a piece of cake. I believe it is the 29th most difficult one based on that metric. The Skins' 2011 opponents went a combined 121-135 in 2010. (Check for yourself to see if I made a math error here.)

The Redskins get to play the Panthers as one out of division team and the Vikings as the other. Based on comments here, the Vikes should be an easy game because they have such a worthless QB and the Panthers were abjectly miserable last season.

After they play the Panthers and Bills on two consecutive weekends, they then have to contend with the 49ers - - another Super Bowl contender. :yeahright

The Redskins - - and the rest of the NFC East - - get to play the NFC West this year as part of the in-conference rotation. Remember, that is the division that had no teams with winning records last year.

What you ought to fear the most is that the Redskins EASY schedule will make the team appear to be "one player away from greatness" in 2012 and tempt the powers that be into abandoning the "build from within strategy"...

I'm very impresed with TW. The knock on him has been discipline. So the fact that he worked out all off-season on his own (well with Vince Young and Andian Peterson), and basically said "I don't need teammates or coaches breathing down my back. I'll be ready" and he is is a testament, I think, to how much he's grown.

I know people want to say well what about our OL? Why are we ignoring it. But really, there's only so much depth you can have at OL because those guys don't play teams. And in the past year we've added Williams, Brown, Kory L., Eric Cook, Selvish Caper, and Chris Chester (among a few others). That's a good amount of youth and guys entering their prime. With the possible exception of Jammal Brown, depending on your view.

Yeah Beck's struggling, was that a surprise? It will take time and if he manages to develop a rhythm with the receivers that will happen less and less. Beck is not the savior and is a stop gap at best.

I thought I asked it somewhere but really would like to hear how Capers is looking. Anyone heard/seen anything about him?

Re: How far can Beck take us?

I heard he struggled on Saturday, but that's second hand info so I don't really know.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

I sure hope Beck does rise to the occasion and freaks us out by becoming maybe a Joe Flacco type, meaning a good game manager, making few if any mistakes. I can't see him really lighting it up for some massive passing yards, but it would be nice. We have a stud WR corp on paper now. I would like to see Paul really step it up and win a spot. I would like to have a set of wideouts that will be around for awhile. Get a new posse going!!!!!

Exactly. Stop gap at best. Not trying to overuse the Frerotte thing, but that is what you get with Beck, if that. Beck might be decent enough to be behind center and execute a basic offense, but that is it. He might be good enough to get us at 8-8, but no playoffs. I think our FO knew this QB class was overrated and decided to take a pass on Mallet and Locker. I don't think we will be lucky to get Luck next draft, but there will be fine QBs just the same. Luck is good as gone unless we really suck, but good guys like Dan Persa, Kellen Moore, Nick Foles, etc will be out there. I put Dan Persa out there because I think we know Luck will be taken, along with Moore probably. Persa and Foles should be there for us if we have a mid number pick in the first round.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

Okie, I think the comments posted after the article says it all. The one guy asked did Shanny watch the tape of McNabb, another said the same of Clemens. To think the Tuna or Harbaugh doesn't know QB talent is a stretch. Sorry dude, but I think Shanny is trying to spin this to not admit the season might be a long one. I don't think we are going to take a fall for Luck, but we are going for mid round pick again. We are rebuilding still and will be for another season or two. We still have depth/talent issues at DB.

Re: How far can Beck take us?

To think we ditched probably better QB prospects over the past few seasons(Brennan, Daniel) to end up with Beck and Clemens is rather sobering.
