For some reason we failed to use LaVar in ways that would maximize his talent. If Parcells signs him, you watch out. the guy will make plays all day long. I just have a very bad feeling about him saying he wants to walk back into fed x once a year. All 3 NFC east teams are looking for OLB, so its a very high percentage he will sign with one of those teams. Its going to turn out to be one of the stupidest moves of all time for the Redskins.
Who's hating him? I'm crushed that he's gone and terrified that he might come back...even once a year! I just wish he would stay away from the NFC East so that we could continue to cheer for him regularly.

I like Coach Gibbs and Coach Williams, but this is one time I want them to go home kicking themselves for not figuring out how to use a player.

I will agree we did not do the best job of using his talent but I will have to add that he did not use his talent to fit the team. I think Lavar thought that after his injury he could just strap on his shoes and be the starter. He did not do what the coaches wanted to learn the system and thus did not get himself in position to play and make plays. He has alot of god given talent but it is a team sport and in Williams D it requires players to be patient and wait for the play to come to them. He will make alot of big plays for another team but how many will he give up. Its like a corner who always goes for the ball. On one play they look great but they get beat way to often.

I am seriously tired of all that crap and talk of him not playing within the system. blah blah blah. that is retarded. The guy is a fanominal LB and Dallas,NY,or Philly will use him and find out exactly what we couldn't. The guy went through 5 or 6 different coaches learning a new position, a new scheme every single year. name a player on that defense that has been through that year in and year out. Wynn, so what, he plays end. there is no one else. Go to work and have a different boss with you learniing a new job every year and see how you do. it will take a while. the fact is in 3 of those 5 years he made the pro bowl. This year would have been the first time he had played with the same D-cord since he was drafted. He got hurt, then lost his job. Just like trotter now beasting it up in Philly because we cut him too early before he was 100%, same thing with LaVar. He will be back to his old self and got help Brunell or Campbell when Dallas comes to town. LaVar will kill em!

Given that the NFC East rivals are all in the market for OLBs and Arrington wants to play in the NFC East, who does he go to? Cowboys, Eagles, or Giants? I say he goes to the Cowboys (even though he says it might tough to go there and he ended Aikman's career). He'd love that sort of drama.
yeah, he would love that drama. Actually, while I love Lavar, I disagree w/some who talk about his "passion" for the game. He's got a passion for the big play but at the expense of every down consistency. That said,I think he's looking for the biggest stage possible, where he can begin to market himself for life after football, maybe do more ads & try some acting. Dallas would give him a lot of exposure & the drama would be huge when we play them. J. Jones would love to sign him, but i bet parcell's would not be so quick to agree. They just drafted Demarcus Ware & he plays weakside, Lavar's natural position. Plus, I don't see Parcells appreciating his game that much. on the other hand, Lavar's at a point where he needs to prove himself to a coaching staff. Kinda like Keyshaun but w/different circumstances. I think Lavar will become a good linebacker somewhere, better than he was for us, but maybe not for that much longer. Ultimately I think he'll get out of football after 3 years. I don't think its his life like it is for some guys who play to their mid 30s.
It will be interesting to see if Coughlin or Reid will want him as well. Coughlin could be swayed by AP for or against lavar, & Reid & co. might not want to take on another attention seeking ego w/baggage after their TO debacle.

Re: Lavar Gone

You act like LaVar is a disruption to the team. There are going to be a ton of teams out there trying to bring him in. They wont need to be persuaded into signing him. Right now there is said to be 10 teams, all the NFC east teams are some of them. Parcells, not interested in #56, are you crazy! He is the mold of LT, passionate, looking to kill the QB, fast, strong, great athlete. I think it will be hard for him not to sign him.

Re: Lavar Gone

Saying he didn't play within the system isn't hating, it's the truth. Ask any of his coaches going back to Penn State, that's always been the constant knock on his game. He relies too heavily on his natural abilities, that's fine for some coordinators but obviously it's not what Gregg Williams and the rest of our defensive staff wants.

Best of luck to him, but I don't think he'll be missed around here. He missed a large part of the past two years and our defense has been just fine.

Re: Lavar Gone

Lavar has passion for the game. He biggest problem was the redskins prior to gibbs he had a differnt d-coordinator almost every year and never got comfortable in any system. He loved the skins. if anybody in here went to a home game last season even when he wasnt playing he getting the crowd pumped up. i remember before the philly game on sunday night before kick-off they showed him on the big screen in the stadium and Fed-Ex got pumped up even more. I hate to see him go because i dont want to have to play him twice a year he is going to be out to prove the skins wrong about his ability.

i know you got a man crush, but seriously. he and dale lindsey were yelling at each other in the locker rooms and some players were siding with lavar. he was a distraction and gibbs is all about the team. he also whined to the media more often than he should have.

He's handled his parting of ways very very well, and he's always been completely clean off the field and been good with the media.

BUT,
he never liked film study and never made much of an attempt to improve his game. he didn't use move (rip, tear, spin) when rushing the QB as much as trying to bowl people over. lindsey probably got pretty pissed becauses out of all the LBs here, he was the only one that didn't work on technique or field awareness. He's been living on his natural talent thusfar and the problem, of course, is once you get hurt and slow down your advantage over other players becomes much less noticeable.

sean taylor also has the same type of crazy talent, but he's been working on technique and film study, and he's already making plays like he did in college.

Re: Lavar Gone

My uncle is an orthopedic surgeon who's talked to those close with his knee conditon. He seems to believe his career is nearing an end. If you take a hard look at him last season you can see he lost a step. I think it was a good move to release him.... Arrington has the heart of a lion, but with a bum knee I think he'll trickle away.

I was just talking about this with someone. I have yet to go Oh shit we lost lavar now the team will suck. If we lost a randy thomas, a chris cooley, santana, portis, marcus, lamar, sean, Grif, Jansen, Samuels, or even ryan clark, joe salavea, Doc, Rabach, sellers, or Carlos I would Say OH SHIT WE LOST THEM NOW WE ARE GOING TO SUCK. Obviously one player couldn't ruin a team but I would say we lost someone who was benefiting the team. I would be scared that the team would get worse without them. I don't feel that way about lavar. The only place he will be missed is in the hearts of redskin fans, but not on the field.

I think that is surprising. I feel we lost someone important to the team but i don't feel he really mattered in production.

when asked where do you want to play he said in the NFC EAST. Straight out. He said he oculdn't wear a dallas jersey but I think he has a great chance at either NY or Philly. After that it goes to the chargers, vikings, browns, cinci, pittsburg, maybe even the dolphins.

Re: Lavar Gone

I think that part of the conflict here is that while all of us put our hearts into the Skins, there are also certain players out there that many of us pull for independent of teams: Arrington, Bettis, Donovan McNabb, Warrick Dunn. Guys who are terrific players and great men. It sucks to see one of them get caught in a position like this. I'm a big fan of Lavar as much for his character as for his animal instincts on the field. I just wish things could have worked out here for him and that we could have kept such a "character guy" as one of the Redskin faces. We might find another player who can step in and play, but there is more to a guy like Lavar than just QB Kills. Like I said before, it will be strange seeing HIM in a different uniform.
