I agree with you that they don't want Farve but they do not want to face him twice a year. I don't think they will just release him but rather they will take something less than a 1st round draft pick. I'd like to keep this going and see him show up to camp ready to play football. It would make GB a circus and would be great to watch.

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

I think the Packers were jaded by Favre's near-return in March. They are concerned he'll suddenly change his mind again, and with the regular season so close it's a risk they don't want to take.

What if Favre does come back, and just totally tanks it? It's unlikely but what if he just has a Cris Dishman-like fall? Wonder what the feeling will be then?

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

It's already a circus and will continue to be so.

Reporter: Has this become a distraction for the players and Packers organization?

Rogers: Not really, I'm just taking this one day at time. As far as I'm concerned, I'm the guy until I hear otherwise.

three months later.....

Reporter: Aaron, you guys are now sitting at .500 and you've thrown more interceptions than touchdowns so far this season. How have you been able to block out the Brett Favre distraction?

Rogers: (turning to Favre) Brett, you want to answer the man?

It dont matter who the QB is if they have a bad season fans will be pissed off at the Packers for making the decision of who was picked as the starting QB. Whoever the QB will be better have a pretty damn good season...

i'd taken a proven commodity over an unproven one everytime.that's why i think the packers are morons if they don't let favre be the qb.rogers has had 3 good quarters,(all last year in dallas),and fre has 16 years worth.i'm scared if the packers strt favre,i'm a lot more relaxed if they start rogers.

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

As someone with only a passing interest in this whole saga my real wish at this point is that this can be resolved amicably, and that this neither tarnishes the QB or the team. I hope Favre goes to a team where he can compete, Rodgers is a success, and in a couple years Favre doesn't get all Marcus Allen on us and show up at Canton in a TB hat.

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

20 million to just stay away from camp....huh. Now thats a tough decision? Yea right,Done!

That should if Favre is thinking clearly IMO be a rap! Take the money and call it a career.

WTMJ television in Milwaukee reported that the team offered Favre in the neighborhood of $20 million over several years to stay retired. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on its Web site that the team offered Favre "a substantial salary" to stay away. Both reports cited sources close to Favre. But signs still point to the quarterback reporting to Packers camp.
After the meeting, Cook was asked by the media if Favre could be back in Green Bay by Friday and he said that was a good possibility.

"He would love to go back in Green Bay," Cook said, in comments broadcast by ESPNEWS. "I mean, that's why he started working out. But right now, it looks like he'll be the quarterback at Oak Grove High School."

GB should be ashamed of themselves. I can not believe they are offering him a ton of $ to stay home. Unfreakinbelievable.

Paying him to stay home is downright pathetic. And if Favre were to take the money he would look like a fraud. Shame on the Packers for making a complete mockery of the situation.

But I wonder if that $20 mil includes, let's say, the $12 mil he would have earned this year anyway. So in essence, they're only, and I say only, shelling out $8 mil spread over the next several years.

Good point. $8 million over 10 years is less sad (not as sad?), but sad nonetheless. And what's worse is that it's former Redskins great Mark Murphy behind all this. What's most remarkable is that the Packers are so far under the cap, that they seemingly have no problem dedicating a large chunk of their money to tell their best player ever to stay home. Must be nice.
