Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009
It's not like Tampa is an NFL wasteland though, they are generally pretty competitive, it's a very desirable location, and they have big money to spend. I really wouldn't be surprised at all if AH lands there.

These days, cash is becoming a bigger constraint than cap. I don't know about Tampa's ability to pay huge cash, maybe they can. Question is, is our cap constraint more of a concern for us, or is their cash constraint more of a concern for them.

I'm pretty stunned we only offered a 5th round tender for Montgomery. But it would kind of jive with what I'd heard (or not heard) about interest around the league in Montgomery, which is surprisingly low.

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009
He's flashed for us but has been pretty inconsistent in his young career. And there's no shortage of press coming out of Redskins Park speaking to his lack of work ethic, and Blache's tendencies to ride him hard for that reason. Better to get him for cheap (conserve that cap space for the big fish) than pretend someone would pay a 2nd rounder for him.

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009
So its my understanding that we are 12M under the cap now. We need 2.5M for draft picks, and we're probably tendering a few of our own guys, so lets say we save 3M for that. so that gives us 6.5M to work with.
Hall would cost us 4M against the 2009 cap. However, signing Hall likely means releasing springs, so if we made both those moves, we're still left with 9M to play with. Lets say we do land Haynesworth. The experts here think this could be done and only cost us 7M against the 2009 cap. So that leaves us with 2M But now Dockery is available and signing him would probably cost 3-4M against the cap. However, its my understanding that we could restructure Taylors contract and save 2M, leaving us right around the salary cap. So, at the end of the day, if we made those moves, our entire defense would be in extremely good shape, with the only noteable vacancy at Strong Side LB. On offense, we are set with the only noteable need for an upgrade at RT. (RG is also a need but i cant see anyone replacing Thomas this year, not with his contract). If we don't go after Haynesworth or we decide to cut Taylor, i think its likely we have room to sign Canty, a WR such as Amani Toomer or Devery Henderson, and a LB.

canty is great, but at WR i rather have galloway, nate washington, or maybe even mike furrey. henderson has been a bit of a bust. speed and no hands, or whatnot. |

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009
The first post in this thread has been updated again. It reflects:
- Cornelius Griffin restructure, saving $3.0 million per JLC (again, pending a better number from CC). - Montgomery and Suisham tenders, assumed to cost $1.0 million each. I have us at roughly $11.8 million in space at the moment.

Re: Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009
the NFL Network has us at 8.1 mill. Does that include Daniels contract voided or will that be added at the start of free agency when it actually voids?

That's probably how they got to the $8. We've since had several restructures.

I can't believe we were only 4 mill under before the extra money came available. I me we were only a couple million over after Randel El and Carter were renogatiated. Griffin and Samuels did that little? |

and then our kicker signed his offer, that costs us 1mill and he's secured for next year. we have unsigned tenders for 1.5mill each to golston and montgomery right now i think too. these guys have all gotten redone a million times though, so it's not like you can squeeze all that much out of those deals. |
