...To a player not even in the progression.

For the record, Jay Cutler would have gotten intercepted or near intercepted on this play...and he himself would never have even looked at Thrash.

Is the fact that you have no idea what you are seeing on film supposed to be an argument for or against Campbell?

Re: Colt Brennan Says He'll "Play A Ton" In The Preseason

I've stayed out of the Campbell/Colt/Cutler/Sanchez business for the most part since the draft but for any educated, rational fan it's obvious that we wouldn't be having these discussions if we had made the playoffs last season. A couple points to address that fact:

1. While we had the #4 defense (based on yardage allowed) that is probably the most hollow statistic in the entire NFL. It's been well documented how poor we were at getting pressure on the QB and getting turnovers. That's what makes defenses elite, not merely yardage against. Our #4 ranked defense gave up huge plays on game winning drives against St. Louis and SF and couldn't get off the field against Cincy and Dallas to give the offense additional chances to score in the 4th quarter of those games.

2. We were literally 4 plays away from being an 11 win team last year.
-Leigh Torrence gives up a huge play on 3rd and long to Donnie Avery putting the Rams in FG territory with less than 2:00 in the game. Josh Brown kicks the game winning FG.

-Santana Moss has a TD pass hit him in the hands at the 9 yard line in the 4th quarter vs. Dallas which would have given us the lead back. We convert 3 more first downs on that drive but turn it over on downs after a bad drop on 3rd and 4 by Thomas and a bad read by Campbell on 4th and 4. We give the ball back with 6:40 left and don't see the ball again.

-Mike Sellers gets stuffed on 2nd down and then fumbles on 3rd down from the half yard line at the 5:30 in the 3rd period against Cincy which would have tied the game. From that point forward we had 3 more possessions (in a quarter and a half!) and those possessions started at our 9 yard line, our 11 yard line and their 20 yard line (after a long KO return inside of 2:00 in the 4th).

-In a tie game with :28 left, Shaun Hill completes a 24 yard pass to the 20 yard line for the game winning FG.

While that wasn't a guaranteed win, if we were playing for something I'd like to think we'd make it happen in overtime.

If those 4 plays don't happen, I don't think most knowledgeable and rational fans would care that Campbell only threw 13 TD last year.

Clip 1. the slot wr runs a post, he has a safety over the top and the defender underneath went to the outside wr when he cut inside leaving the number 2 wr open. you see the corner pointing to the outside wr when he cut and the defender picked him up underneath leaving the slot open on the post with the safety behind him over the top

Clip 3 vs the gmen. when he shows where the first down line is look at the number 3 wr in the slot to the bottom of the screen. Thats as open as you are going to get. if the ball is out its a completion. the safety is over the top of the wr. underneath the defender again goes to the wr coming on a short cross from the top of the screen.

I'm sure the safety who was standing right over him at the first down marker would not have moved once the ball is thrown.

This is essentially what you are saying, correct?

clip 3.the ball was on the 48 yard line the slot wr ran straight down the field the safety back pedaled to his 27 as the wr was around the 37 =10 yard cushion.look for your self its 1:17 into the video. at the beginning of the play the slot wr is lined up on the 50 yd line as the safety is on the 34 yd line. the OLB drops back and then follows Cooley to the inside leaving the slot locked up with the safety. AGAIN this is the NFL you wont have wide open WR's on each play, you have to hit the windows as they open.

A ten yard cushion is meaningless when he's 20 yards down the field.

If he's even five yards behind the safety, then he's "wide" open by NFL standards. Having a safety standing right over him at the first down marker does not give any possible way to complete a pass, unless it's an option route which this very clearly was not.

Also, this wasn't even a read play. At all. Campbell's job on the play was just to throw Moss the ball. Using this clip against as an argument against a QB is a fundamental misuderstanding of NFL offense, and is a waste of my time.

You should know this already, because it's common sense, but the fact that you do not shows me why you thought Wilcots made a good argument in the first place.

It means you throw the ball to the wr and let him have a chance at makin a play.
the first down was 17 yds away. big cushion

There's no point in talking to dbuch. He's incapable of admitting when he is wrong, making him a poor conversant.

Pay attention! It has already happened. GTripp's analysis of the clips was far superior to yours. You've ALREADY been demonstrated as mistaken. The only thing missing is a self-critical ability on your part.

Besides, your analysis diverges from Wilcots's analysis, despite the fact that you have already described Wilcots's presentation as proof. Therefore either you or Wilcots is mistaken and it doesn't matter who. You have produced mistaken statements either way, although you continue to disclaim responsibility for them.

A real man is capable of admitting when he is wrong. Again, the only thing missing is a self-critical ability on your part.

I stand by these comments because I have video and video is proof.

Re: Colt Brennan Says He'll "Play A Ton" In The Preseason

take off the JC glasses and watch the wr's. clip1 the slot wr on the post is open when he cuts and the defender goes to the outside wr in the shallow cross. bottom of the screen. i guess ill point it out and make it easy for you. look when the corner is pointing to the wr so the defender picks him up as the corner continues to cover deep

Re: Colt Brennan Says He'll "Play A Ton" In The Preseason

Ths first clip wasnt a cover 2 boys and girls. the corner keeps dropping back. LOOK AT THE VID. he points while he continues to drop back in deep coverage to the wr that cuts underneath on the cross. meanwhile the defender picks him up as the slot runs the post. he is OPEN with the safety over the top.
