Well if he was coveted by us before Haslett got here then I am sure he still is.

Just heard on NFL radio though that they have until June to make on an offer to him. There is some kind of clause in the CBA the NFL will be working off of come tommorrow. So I wouldn't expect the news on him to come down anytime soon.

There are rumors that the Rams will give Atogwe the lowest tender (no draft picks required)...any idea if he would fit our FS needs?

He isn't great, but he would fill the need.

They still hold right of first refusal, and Atogwe is not the kind of player I would poison pill anything for. St. Louis will let him walk if the offer is decent enough.

Good article by Reid about why we should get Dansby...

Redskins Insider - Karlos Dansby might be best fit for Redskins in free agency

He does sound like a good fit. We definitely need a linebacker or two if we are pushing Lorenzo to become an LB.

How about Lorenzo? This guy is insane... He has played OL, DT, DE and now an LB? Can he play Qb?

If we do sign Dansby, it seems like the idea there would be that the long term contract we are giving him would be the long term deal that McIntosh should get.

On principle, I am against this. But in reality, Dansby is a better anchor on the interior than McIntosh will be, and great 3-4 ILBs are always in high demand. It would not be a bad move.

i dont see how signing one necessarily precludes the other. my plan would be to sign Dansby to a long-term deal this year, then sign McIntosh next year, if he successfully adapts to the 3-4. I dont think this will be Fletcher's last year by any means, but he can't keep going forever.

There's nothing preventing us from doing what you are suggesting, but there's really no reason to sign Dansby unless it's determined that McIntosh is an inferior player. I think his tender offer suggests such a conclusion.

I imagine the guy who replaces Fletcher in the defense will be Blades or someone younger than Blades. I don't like the idea of having two ILBs around the same age and experience level, because if they happen to decline at the same time, you have a gaping hole in the middle of your defense at a position that won't really show up on film to be discovered.

So we are possibly looking at these possible LB lineups...

Peppers OLB, Rocky ILB, Fletch ILB, and Orakpo OLB

or

Somebody OLB, Dansby ILB, Fletch ILB, and Orakpo OLB

Which one would you take Tripp?

The latter option has fewer holes. I don't like the ILB combination in the first option. So I would take the second.

Peppers and Orakpo are quite the dominant OLB tandem, though Alexander/Wilson and Orakpo aren't a bad deal at all.

re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread

I dont know how Blades would hold up as a 3-4 ILB. Sure, Fletcher is undersized and has done well as a 4-3 MLB, but even he's questionable to hold up well as a 3-4 ILB. I'm not saying Blades couldn't do it, i just wouldnt count on it. But i get what youre saying about not wanting two guys with the same age and experience level.

Maybe we should look at Hank Fraley as a Center option.

also Larry Foote of Detroit who has plenty of experience as a 3-4 MLB under Lou Spanos our new LB coach, could be here as well, and I just saw his height and weight, and Rocky is bigger than him by an inch and is the same weight, so maybe Rocky could be a MLB in a 3-4

How about just going with this headline:

"Redskins interested in every damn free agent out there"

Isn't that how they report things out there?

On a related note, there's a Bengals DT Shaun Smith who's going to be a free agent (wasn't tendered according to Schefter's tweeter). At 6'2" 325lbs. it is said that he can play NT (by ESPN Scouts Inc) and is 28 yrs. old. Maybe we should look at him, and have a NT by committee of Monty, Smith, and maybe Griffin?
