Both of our safeties are out. Who exactly should they have brought in that would have done any better? I floated this before (not you) and still haven't received a answer to this.
The jets are starting two fa safeties and are at least doing adequate at the position. The jags and texans each brought in fa safeties a year ago and produced top defenses. You do have to find guys that fit the scheme, which is what we were hoping to do with Jackson, but when you load up on the meriweathers and Williams of the world, this is the result.

Doughty is actually having a pretty good year, but Gomes has been a big disappointment.

The FO has made some early mistakes too with the trade for McNabb, but overall have made our team a lot younger and we don't over pay for FA's that's a big win in my book. I think if we didn't have the cap penalty we would have addressed more needs this offseason, but couldn't.
And he's screwed up a lot this year two. A ton of the same mistakes.

The cap penalty can't be an excuse. It sucks, but it is what it is. We went from having an unfathomable amount of cap room to a realistic amount. That should not break a season.

So you saying having Finnegan on this squad wouldn't have helped this year?

Well. We wouldn't of lost against the Rams at least.

Manning and Cruz said that they saw the coverage pre-snap. That makes me mad because Haslett and Raheem has to know their players strenghts and weaknesses. The players have to know too.

When is it reasonable to expect playoffs? This is year 3. Next year is year four and you have the built in excuses of 1) not having a first round pick, and 2) still having the cap penalty. So I guess no playoffs next year either.

Bottom line, if this team can't get it done, there should be changes. Today doesn't have to be a huge setback, but the Redskins have a history of letting these become setbacks.

Looking at the roster and being realistic about what they still need. You can't fix a decade of bad drafting in a couple seasons.

Well our issue, as you've noted in the past, seems to be more about talent acquisition and less about coaching. The lack of secondary talent at this point falls squarely on Shanny's shoulders. The mere act of letting Landry go with no reasonable plan to replace him is irresponsible to me. It's one thing to let him go because you've got a younger cheaper healthier player who can approximate the production but we replaced him with a bunch of castoffs and journeymen. Baffling.

The year one cap differences between Carr and Garçon were negligible. Had to make a choice.

Whoever signed first may have taken the other one out of being possible though.

Yep fire all the coaches, sounds like a plan. Lets just pretend this year #1 with Shanahan, he's not going anywhere after the season. We have a rookie QB, building from the ground up starting from this year not 2 years ago.

The question isn't just starting over again or not? The real question is can the current regime take this team to the next level? In my opinion, there is no rational reason to expect this team to significantly improve over the next few years with the current leadership. They are not building from the ground up, or shouldn't be. They have had 3 offseasons to build with no noticeable sign of improvement anywhere with the exception of Griffin's remarkable ability.

There are plenty of quality coaches in waiting who can work with Griffin and develope his game. Change should come sooner than later, and cutting your losses early is always the best path to take. It's not happening with Shanahan, it just isn't. Players have lost confidence whether they admit it or not in my honest opinion.
