Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings

Good article...these guys seem like lunch pail, do the dirty work and more importantly, "you know your role and excel at it" type signings. Backbone of a defense. I like it. But I think Stacy will be a d-end, he won't sniff the nose spot..he will kick down in the nickel and be effective.

Benie Logan will play more of the disruptive force if we can land him.

These moves are all about improving the run defense. Great approach and makes perfect sense from last year. At least the fo is making sense in free agency and seem to have a plan.

I love the Pryor signing. Great FA move. Low risk, high reward. No way could the Redskins pay Garcon and Jackson the money they're getting.

Now if they could get Logan, plus draft some more studs, get some luck with Galette...we're on our way.

Imho getting rid of Baker for these guys isn't improvement.

Its creating a hole and filling it with lesser players.

I think Chris Baker is better than either of the guys but they didn't want Baker for some reason, so that is that. Baker was a starter for us. What if these guys aren't expected to be starters as we obtain more talent in FA and the draft? The question then becomes "are they better than Ricky Jean, Ziggy, etc".

I was bummed with the Baker loss, but not OMG type pissed. We have 10 picks and a ton of DTs and LBs in this draft that are excellent caliber. I am not sure why we grabbed those two. Could have saved $$$$$$$$$ to get Bennie for sure or another true starter. The rooks we draft could start or rotate with Bennie if we get him. Why waste roster space with more guys with injury problems, etc?

Agreed.. Sounds like they are following Scott's plans in draft / FA, so perhaps the two DT we signed were targeted by Scott. But then again, Scott has had many misses in FA, esp on Dline, so who knows if they will work out. Would love Logan or another legit DT to feel more confident about the line. Looking forward to 10 picks this draft, but a little uneasy without a GM, even if we have his board.

I agree, Logan had a bad year.... 24 tackles- PFF rating of 45 out of 100.... Baker had a 82 PFF rating

FWIW Hankins rating was about the same as Logan...... McGee could be the sleeper with a 80 PFF rating with limited playing time

Logan really struggled with injuries last year...on top of having a new system installed. If you look at his ratings from previous years he improved every year before dipping last year.

Baker was a freelancer and had a shitty attitude.
He thought he was Warren Sapp.

he was one of the players singled out for being a problem for coaches along with Breeland and Ihenacho.

McGee is rated as Baker's equal by PFF. If you don't like PFF fine, but you can't deny he was a big part of the DL rotation on a very good Raider defense. I don't think we lose anything going from Baker to McGee, personally.

On McClain it does feel to me like we overpaid for a journeyman. But he does penetrate well.

I want Logan bad, he's better than Baker.

Schneed normally I agree with your well-thought out positions, but the Raiders defense was pretty bad last year. They not only gave up a lot of yards, but they gave up 2 more points than our equally terrible defense last year. The one thing they were great at was turnover differential, they were +16 which was tied for first with KC last year.

I also agree on Bennie Logan though, if we can get him even at 7 mil or so for the year I'd do it.

If you take off your burgundy colored glasses, you have to acknowledge that while Baker was our best lineman he was still pretty inconsistent.

An interesting (and probably) unpopular take on free agency:

I thought it was hilarious that people were slitting their wrists before we even made one move.

Meaningless side note how tall is Pryor anyway? NFL.com says 6'4, this article says 6'6, and I saw another article say 6'5? Why the big discrepancy? Can someone get this guy in front of a tape measure already?

I'm waiting for an article to say that he's 7 feet tall.
