Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?
There seems to be no shortage of opinions on embattled Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell. Most of those opinions are not favorable. Even when coming from his coach, Tom Cable.
Former Redskins QB Joe Theismann , however, took the Russell criticism to a level that would even make American Idol judge and noted sourpuss Simon Cowell blush. Theismann, while appearing on “Moving the Chains on Sirius NFL Radio” with hosts Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan, said that the Raiders should make a deal for Jason Campbell. Not necessarily because Campbell is so good, but because Russell is so bad. “If I was the Oakland Raiders, I would be on the phone with (Redskins GM) Bruce Allen and see what kind of deal we could make for Jason Campbell,” Theismann said. “Because I can tell you conclusively that JaMarcus Russell will never be able to play quarterback in the National Football League. “He’s 290 pounds. At 265 he’s too big. He’s inaccurate and he’s too big. And he doesn’t thrown the ball well. “JaMarcus just doesn’t get it. And to think that you take a strong-armed guy and you put him in Oakland and say that it’s the old Oakland Raiders. Jason Campbell can do everything for you.” Wow, even a hug from Paula Abdul will not help you overcome a tongue-lashing like that. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported on Monday that the Raiders, along with the Bills, Panthers and Jaguars could be in play for Campbell. Latest from ESPN

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?
I would not be surprised if the Raiders took Claussen in the 1st, or McCoy/Tebow in the 2nd. The Raiders do like Gradkowski to, and I don't see them giving up any decent pick for Campbell, 4th-5th tops.
Oakland is a dysfunctional mess, and JC's career will dive into the abyss if he goes there. I hope he stays here then go to Oakland, for his sake. |

I doubt as a coach you would mutually agree for a player to stay away if you had any plans for him whatsoever. At this point Shanny would trade JC for a Ryan Leaf rookie card and a pack of juicy fruit.

Re: Is Campbell Officially Headed Out The Door?
Here's more
Shanahan on quarterbacks: an early look During the course of the afternoon Wednesday, Mike Shanahan made the rounds and addressed every TV camera, appeased as many radio hosts as possible and talked to a group of beat reporters. Not surprisingly, he was asked at almost every stop about quarterback Jason Campbell, and for the most part Shanahan said the same thing: some variation of, "I'm looking forward to seeing more of him." Depending on how you parse the words, though, Shanahan might have sounded committed to Campbell during one interview and not-so-committed in the next. It's probably not fair to read too much into his precise words on Day 1 of the new job because for the most part, Shanahan and Bruce Allen avoided anything specific Wednesday. Here's what Shanahan said he likes to see in a quarterback: "There's so many things. No. 1, you've got to be accurate. No. 2, you've got to be passionate with what you're doing. You've got to love what you're doing; you've got to study the game inside and out. You're looking at guys who carry that over to the football field. Some guys are talkers; other guys are quiet. I've seen people lead in a lot of different ways. The Joe Montanas, the Steve Youngs, the John Elways that I've been with. Each guy's a little bit different in their own way -- all Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Get a guy like Steve Beuerlein: Just go out there and find a way to win. Everybody had different characteristics, but you've got to have a burning desire to be the best at what you do." Translation: He wants someone who can throw the ball and enjoys throwing the ball; is a loud leader, or a quiet leader; and who's like John Elway. Or Steve Beuerlein. So, yeah, pretty simple. The buzz continues to be that Shanahan will nab a quarterback in the draft and try to mold him into something that suits his offense. If Jason Campbell doesn't get blown away with a multi-year free agency contract, the Redskins could bring him back next year for a relatively low cost. But people who've spoken with Shanahan say he's not bowled over by Campbell, has some concerns about his mechanics and don't feel he's the long-term solution in Washington. Time will tell whether that is indeed the case.

Ben Roethl... was asked to stay away. If a guy causes distractions, or as was pointed out can get injured and hurt his trade value, then he will stay away.

This is what Shanahan had to say regarding JC future as a Skin.
"He's got the opportunity to come back here. . . . We're going to do the best thing for the Washington Redskins, and that would be to have him back," Shanahan said. washingtonpost.com |
