Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I have a question regarding Wade Phillips. Why is it that with all the current DC openings no one is knocking on his door?

Hmmm. W/out elite talent, he is pretty average. Shock.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
It's important to note that he was the first defensive coordinator for two expansion teams in Houston and Carolina.
Regardless, Phillips was clearly the best choice, even over Fangio. Spare me the "he's too old" or "too soft" baloney. Players clearly respond to him, and his defenses don't appear to have been much less successful the older he's gotten. I'd feel better about our current front office if I knew SmootSmack's suspicion that Phillips wasn't as interested in coming here as has been reported was true, because passing over one of the most successful defensive coaches in the history of the league for a guy that orchestrated back-to-back defenses ranked league-worst in both yards and points is mind-boggling. Yeah, he may not have had much talent in Detroit, but if he's really a better option than Wade or Fangio you'd think he'd at least finish, I dunno, in the top 25 in either category just once? Maybe? For a start? But hey, we got a young guy with "energy" that "wants to prove himself" and has "grown" since his epic failure in Detroit. Yay! And anyway, who am I to think I know better than our front office? Because clearly, they've done an excellent job in their hires up to this point. Let's all pretend like we don't know how this ends. That felt great.

I wouldn't say the talent level with the bears is that much better - if at all. I wonder of it was for more job security than anything else.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
At the end of the day if Joe Barry can motivate these players, utilize the talents that each player has, put them in the right position to excel and hold them accountable then I am cool with the hire. They tried for Vic and lost.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Man I had to come to the WARPATH to rid my mind of all the negative vibes on that other site ..its unreal how folks calling for Haslet to be fired are now complaining about The new guy and he just got here..I will admit it does not seem like a big name flashy hire..but that has not worked out very good so far..The Redskin fans on sites i have checked into are very very negative about everything..I guess all the losing makes us that way..but at least on the surface it seems things are finally going in the right direction..we got a REAL GM..We have NEW O LINE COACH..NEW DC..AND ALL OUR DRAFT PICKS ..and we are sitting in the catbird seat at number 5..a lot of moves can be made there..i for one I'm going to get positive and at least give the Redskins half of next season to see where its going..I can tell you this much If we can win 8 games next year i will be happy..another draft and who knows ..gotta give it a chance!

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
In the immortal words of one Aaron Rodgers, everyone justs needs to RELAX.
I can buy being uninspired. I can buy being skeptical. I can buy being dissapointed we didn't snag someone more proven. But for f*cks sake the weirdly large contingent of people literally freaking the f*ck out need to get a drink or something. How about we give the guy a chance? Worst case scenario is he's awful and we suck...in which case 2016 is a total house cleaning. It's 50-50 either way on that anyways. We could have a tag team of belichek and parcells running our D and the talent alone would sink below average. Nothing is magically changing next year anyways because of that. |

And what do you mean by "unproven"? How is Barry "unproven"? Is Rex Grossman "unproven" as a quarterback? Was Malcolm Kelly "unproven" as a WR? Barry has been a defensive coordinator, and he was very much proven: he was proven to suck. If a defense is historically bad (as that Detroit defense was), you need a special combination of bad players and bad coaches. Just having one of the two might give you a bad defense, but not a HISTORICALLY bad defense. |

I'm not disappointed in this move because Barry is unproven. While I would have liked a proven coordinator to get this defense to a respectable level until the team puts itself in a strong enough position to make a high-risk-high-reward move, I would have been okay with a guy who hasn't yet had a chance to prove that he can be a good coordinator in this league. That's not he case with Barry. What more evidence could a person possibly need to be convinced that a coordinator is not good? He had a chance. He could not have done worse. I repeat, he could not have done worse. And I don't mean in an "anyone is better than Haslett" argument. I mean, literally, the man could not have done worse. There were 31 other defensive coordinators in the league, all of whom did better than him in both points allowed and yards allowed for two full seasons. As far suggesting that people take it easy and relax because there's nothing as fans we can do about it... that's great as your prerogative, but do you want this website to be a banner of propaganda, or do you want honest discussion? Because if it's the latter you want, then don't complain about other people complaining. I'm as tired of it as anyone else, but I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and tell myself to be happy with an obviously bone-headed hire because someday we won't suck. You wrote that "this team will suck until...well... it doesn't." You're much more optimistic than I am. After hires like this, I'm more in the camp that "this team will suck until I die." And I'm never going to stop complaining. |

The problem though is that indeed too many people get simply overwhelmed with indigence/anger/disappointment/whatever because they base their entire reaction on the well-earned expectation of SUCK. The reality is that the Org has earned this but by sucking for a long time. And the team will suck until...well...it doesn't. Some day they're not going to suck. They're going to start getting it right Maybe it won't be soon or maybe it's today but someday they'll figure this out. At that point not many (no one?) will recognize it though because they, instead of extending the Org yet another undeserved chance, will decry it as stupid and awful. And then they'll be proven wrong. So I choose to simply chill. Maybe he'll be great or maybe he won't. Maybe he'll be great but won 't have enough talent to succeed, Maybe he'll be awful but have so much talent he can't fail. Who the f knows? I do know that freaking out about it like so many people are doing is useless and super tiresome. |

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
Any info on his scheme? Is it too early for him to have a scheme?
More Pittsburg with big guys occupying lineman or more Wade Phillips with the d line actively rushing? |

Good question. He hasn't had a scheme of his own since he was in Detroit and that was a 4-3.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News
I don't think anyone is freaking out at all...but some of us are frustrated and pissed at the choice for obvious reasons. Sure he could be great...but it seems unlikely. Just sick of sucking year after year...and after the last 2 hires I was hopeful the front office turned a major corner...and now back to the same old crap again...so you either get pissed or depressed or you go back into denial mode and enable the same crap. Quite frankly I feel like I am in some sort of dysfunctional relationship. Perhaps the skins mean too much to me...it just ain't healthy. I am sure I am not alone. It seems like Groundhog Day with a bad ending
