Here's the convo: Alex: Ron, I want to keep playing. I know I can do this. Ron: Alex, I respect the hell out of you because you went through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side, but we can't have you back at your salary, and we want to get younger at qb. It's not smart to rely on a 37 year old qb with an injury history as your #1 option in this game. Alex: Ron, I disagree but I respect you for being upfront about it. Ron: Alex, we're gonna let you go, but: (option A)if you can't find a starting job somewhere else we'd be happy to have you back as a backup, on a backup's salary. (option B) I know with your work ethic teams will be calling, and I'll put in a good word for you if you need it. Good luck.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Good news to me.
Now draft a LT at #19,our next QB to mentor in Round 2, then get him some elite WR weapons in FA. We can buy a stud MLB too. No need to spend our whole cap on a QB. We're NOT getting Watson, Prescott or Carr for a good price, so the other options are really no better than a healthy Alex Smith, Taylor Heinicke or 2nd-Round pick. Build around our QBs. Smith was 5-1 with ONE wide receiver and a backup O-Line that never had a stud LT. He'll be even better with some talent around him and time to throw. His arm and high IQ are still there. No to Wentz, Trubisky, Mariota, Newton, Winston, Brissett. McCarron, Fitzpatrick, Taylor, Dalton, McCoy, RG3, Barkley, Sudfeld, Flacco. Ryan Griffin, CJ Bethard. Gabbert, Geno Smith, Glennon, Hoter, Hundley. Mannion, Dobbs, Mullens, Boyle. That's the full list of FA option s left.

Hard to know how much his ability played in to the Colts success, but 6years with the Jaguars doesn't inspire much confidence. |

As far as WFT is concerned, he can no longer give us what we need at QB. We can't run the type of offense we would prefer due to his immobility. We can forget RPO's and any other planned QB runs. He can no longer escape when the pass protection breaks down, and so forth. Most of all, his willingness to expose himself to the possibility of another devastating injury to his right leg seems to me to be unwise and unfair to his family. |

They had one winning season, and finished 3rd or 4th every other year, with no more than 6 wins. Edit: That said, WFT now has the GM responsible for drafting Matt Stafford, Cam Newton. And director of pro scouting who was responsible for drafting Peyton Manning. If these guys can't make the right decision when it comes to our qb then I don't know what resume you need... Their strategy, shit the bed so you get the first overall pick. Rivera hiring anyone with connections. Might as well hire Rob Kardashian and Sarah Huckabee. I'm going to be the first off the Rivera bandwagon. F this guy and he cronies. |

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
not sure why Smith is coming back. he can't get away from the rush. it's a tough decision but you have to move on.
