If he isn't smart enough to know the difference that's his problem. He deserves the backlash he is getting right now from the public and the commish.
You're right about that. The bottom line is that he should have just said "No comment." An even smarter response would have probably been to say something along the lines of "I'm not going to answer that because it has nothing to do with me, the Redskins, Beach Blitz, or anything else that you might need to comment on."

As far as losing ad revenues, maybe that would be a good thing because it would shorten commercial breaks during games. Well, maybe not.

Re: Portis apparently is not a dog lover

There was nothing wrong with the question. Don't blame the reporter for asking Portis how he feels about the situation his colleague is in. All Portis had to say was "no comment"

On that note, I'm done with this thread. Henceforth my answers here will be "no comment"

This is a small time news station that they asked him this stupid question and he gave a stupid answer, and then it gets out to the rest of the world (as these things always do) and people run with it. Think how happy WAVY or whatever it's called is to be getting this kind of national coverage. Hell, this could land that reporter a sideline job on ESPN.
To me, this is very similar to Hardaway's (I think that was his name) comments about gay players in the NBA. I feel like sports reporters ask these ridiculous questions of athletes hoping to get a controversial answer that will get them more coverage. No good can really come from asking/answering questions like this.
Who gives a flying f*** what these guys think about dog fighting, homosexuality, the war in Iraq, dinosaurs, American Idol, or whatever else happens to be in the news that week? They are paid to play a sport or possibly analyze it after their playing time is done; we don't need them to tell us what is right and what is wrong with the world around us, because that's Bill O'Reilly's duty.
I agree but the problem is he was asked the question and he made the comment. He should have known better than to defend an illegal act if Vick is found to be involved. He should have just said something to the effect we will just have to see how this works itself out or I'll let Vick speak for himself. Instaead he aserted himself into the mix with his comment and his comments sense then are even dumber than what he originaly said.

Re: Portis apparently is not a dog lover

I love CP, but he looked like a total idiot last night on the NFL Network. He had a chance to undo his foolish comments, but he stood behind them instead.

I guess it's hard to take "the U" out of Clinton.

What happened to "no comment".........BAD MOD

It's a shame but I don't think CP is smart enough for a "NO COMMENT" statement.

Futhermore, he could have at minimum made a comment that would have made himself at least appear that his IQ reachs into double digits.

I almost find it hard to believe the guy would stand behind such an idiotic statement..... ZERO replacement for common sense!

I guess just becauce you attend the "U"......doesn't mean you have a brain.

Furthermore, you can't make sense out of someone who has none.

You act like these millionaire Players are the victims. I work for a professional Sports team and they tell us over and over and over again to watch what we say to the press or anyone on the street about our company's private business or anything that can reflect badly on our orginazation. We can lose our jobs for saying something stupid or private. It reflects on the entire organization.
You don't think these guys get the same message at work?
You are right about their opinions, nobody should care. But they know better than to run their mouth in front of any media big or small. Portis must have been the one asleep in the back of the class room when they received their media training.
I was also a student athlete in school; when you are good athlete you get preferential treatment and can get away with murder. Please don't say these guys are the victims, they shoot themselves in the foot.
One thing the players and some fans fail to see is it is a privilege to play in the NFL not a right. We as fans pay their salaries and the League (commissioner included) can terminate anyone for conduct detrimental to the league. I do not care if you are next Jim Brown if you continually f-up you will get tossed. I do not care how great of a talent you are, ask Pacman Jones.
You want to keep your Million dollar a year job playing a game, leave the thug BS behind in college and high school. Each individual player needs to make the decision do they want to keep their high paying job or keep their street cred. You decide because the two do not mix. You will eventually get in trouble if you lead a reckless life style. Is it worth it? Ask Pacman.

I hope Coach Joe talks some serious sense into him. CP is one of my favorite Skins. Let him go back to being Dollar Bill and Sheriff Gonna Get You, not team spokesman on animal abuse.

Re: Portis apparently is not a dog lover

I was anxious to hear Portis clarify his statements on the NFL Network last night. Instead of making things better he made them worse, especially when he equated fishing with dog fighting.

He was also kind enough to say that this would be a bust if they don’t make it to the NFC championship game. He stated that this is the last year this team will be together and if they don’t make it this year the team will get blown up the next.

I also didn’t like hearing that after working out legs (running and squatting) that his knee flared up. If he can’t run and lift with his legs now how can they be ready for the season.
I am so happy the skins were smart enough to sign Betts
