OK, I've made up my mind. He gets my vote because that's effing hilarious!

I guess it's not an uncommon set of views after all!

My buddy used to say he liked to pick his presidential candidate, and then if that candidate was republican he'd vote for democrats when it came to the house and senate. And vice versa if he liked the democratic president.

His reasoning was that gridlock was the best thing possible for our government, because then nobody can do anything stupid.

Not a bad theory!

Except that isn't Obama the one saying family and stuff is off limits?

I don't think his campaign intends to attack Palin's daughter. Nobody cares if we do it on a message board somewhere, so go nuts. But it's different if a campaign actually goes there.

Obama doesn't want to go there, which is admirable. I wouldn't either, if I were him. More importantly though, I think Obama would hurt himself politically if he did, no question. Even if the race stays close, I don't see Obama and his campaign going there.

My theory is that all this comprmising is bad. Usually on an issue one side has the right basic premise and one side has the wrong one. When we combine those two the solution evolves to lowest common denominator and it sucks.

Even Kerry had a 7% jump in the polls after his convention and Obama's didn't move at all. We still hear his call for change but see the same old Biden as his VP.
fox news reporting Obama at 50% for the first time. and if Obama had picked some no one, everyone would be screaming about the lack of experience. and i think we all would agree that Joe Biden is a tad bit more qualified to run the country, then Mrs Palin

So basically we need you, me, Dirtbag and SS to all get elected to congress, find someone else who thinks just like us to be president, and steamroll our policies into effect.

Can we put in an earmark for us each to have season tickets to the Skins?

I agree with the conseratives on defense and the economy. However on the social issues I'm definately more liberal including marajuanna legalization (even though I don't smoke), stem cell research (an issue that McCain supports), gay marriage (even though I'm not gay), and the banning of ID from class rooms. I still don't know what to think about abortion though right now I'm barely pro-life (51-49). However at the same time I am appaled about how conseratives want to restrict distribution of the morning after pill.

I mean a fetus reportedly feeling pain and crying during an abortion is apalling however preventing conception the day after (or minutes after if you're prepared) is a totally different story and just because some religous nutjobs are using the Bible to reconcile their beliefs doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer in a country who's social views presumeably range mainly from moderate Judeo-Christian to secular humanist (a nicer way of saying atheist or agnostic). In fact I get chills everytime I see the John McCain, Judeo-Christian speech. I wondered if he's that desperate votes or if he's really that nieve when it comes to the history of his own country.

Another funny thing I find about the Republicans and McCain is they want to stop Gay Marriage, yet their most feasable alternative to abortion, adoption, isn't helped by the fact that many foster kids (as many as 100,000 in the US) can't find a home.

Anyway back to my main point. If I read right according to a UN report the United States has some of the highest rates of teen pregnacy and abortions among first world countries especially when compared to most of Western Europe. The abstinence thing is not working and restricting access to contreception and proper sex education isn't helping.

I know some people will find issue with my post and I'm more then willing to debate so long as it doesn't lead to you calling me an idiot for no good reason or typing in all caps. And to think I use to be apathetic those were the days.

i think that's pretty common for views, at least in NoVA... it's closest party affiliation would be libertarian. We're pretty close on view too, so, uh... me four.

OK, I'll do it. I'm sure we can hook the Danny up with something and get a Suite at the 40-50 yardline. The only gotcha is I must approve all WH intern hirings. I envision the WH under our watch to be similar to the Stark Enterprises plane on the way to Afghanistan.

If I must, I must. I am pretty much in the same political boat as the rest of you. Just don't tell my family.

She sure hasn't been shy about securing earmarks for Alaska...something that McCain continuously rails against. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/wash...=1&oref=slogin

Well that article was pretty vegue about weather Palin was pushing the earmarks (pork) or if it was from other in Alaska. They did mention one small one at the end of the article and this is also the NY Times.

It's an AP article actually but that's not important. I don't have a problem with a governor securing stuff for her state - that's what good governor's do. I just think you are naive to suggest she is some sort of crusading budgetary reformer. Here is another article talking about her extensive lobbying for earmarks when mayor of Wasilla Alaska...then again, this article is actually from the New York times, and we know that they hate America. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/01/us...armarks&st=cse

Edit: this is actually the article I was thinking of, from the WP washingtonpost.com
