Almost 10 years worth quite honestly. Allen has been rumored a couple of times before to come here. And it definitely intensified in the last 18 months. The feeling among most though was that Allen and Snyder would always be in close contact but wouldn't necessarily ever officially ever team up, just because they had come so close before only for one of them to decide not to move forward with it.

Seriously? The person CLOSEST to Shanahan has consistently said he expects Shanny to be here (Schefter)so why would Glazers report change that?

Plus, as has been pointed out by an insightful poster here, and restated by Mort (damn plagarist):
1. Jones isn't about to give up personnel control-he's more 'meddlesome' than Snyder in actual player acquisitions.
2. Jones isn't looking to spend a ton of money, especially since he owes Garrett more than $5 million over the next couple of years and he's got a buttload of debt from the stadium.
3. Jones wants a younger coach, preferably a college coach (according to Mort on Friday) which Shanahan is not.

Nothing else is going to happen until January 4th so until then just chillax, enjoy the holidays and see what happens.

With Allen on board, I suspect Bill Muir might be a possibility for the coaching staff as well. He's in KC right now.

We shall see

I don't think there was a link. It seemed like they were talking about something Casserly said on TV or Radio.

Didn't he work for Gruden as O-line coach or OC? If that's the case then is the door shut on Gruden?

So if/when Shannhan comes here... Do you think we end up keeping Portis another year considering they've worked together in the past?

Unless Gruden is the biggest secret I don't see him coming here. We keep hearing how he's stuck in his contract and nothing more. By all accounts we keep hearing how Shanahan was supposed to be a package deal with Allen, shanahan is in talks with DS, Shanahan is calling around trying to assemble a coaching staff and on and on. Gruden not a peep other then he worked with Allen in Tampa.

I think it's safe to say Shanahan will be here at the end of the season. Reports now are that DS offered the job to him back in March. DS tried to get him to come to the Skins back in 2000. DS visits him(Shanny) at the break although it was reported DS was helping out a Charity only to have it come out he visited Shanny and tried to get him to take the job at the break. Reports are DS and Shanny are pretty good friends and talk all the time since they met up back in 2000 at some confrence.

We should be more concerned at this point with who will Shanny bring with him...as position coach's and scouts. I'm really interested in who the WR coach, Special Teams coach, and OL coach.

I'd like to see

M. Shanahan- HC/president
Kubiac- Asst. HC/Senior OC
K. Shanahan- OC
A. Gibbs- OL

WR and ST I have no clue as to who we could get.

On a side note Jerry Rice might not have coached before but do you guys think he could be brought in as Asst. to the WR coach if paid well enough to pass on his abilities and work out routine. Especially his off season work out routine? Then to round out the team maybe a blast from the past Darrel Green to be Asst. defensive backs coach.

I can't help but think that there's a mystery head coach candidate that is completely off the radar. Look at past moves of the Danny, he usually finds a way to make a move that nobody saw coming. Gibbs was a shocker, nobody saw Marty coming, and even the Vinny/Allen drama last week came as a surprise. The Shanahan rumors almost seem too obvious. I think something else is cooking.

good point. let's throw out some possibilities:
Keeping Zorn
Jerry Gray or Danny Smith
Marty
Fassel
Grimm
P. Carroll or other big name college coach

I vote for Grimm. I know my vote does not count. Would love to see Gregg come back too.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

I was watching the games yesterday when they announced on TV that the Redskins interviewed Greg Blache a few days ago about the Head Coaching Position, thereby satisfying the Rooney Rule, and leaving the Skins to sign whoever they want.

One guy yesterday said that Jim Zorn has likely been told, which proves just how classy of a guy he is to still stay here....

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

I wouldn't discount Gregg Williams as Snyder's Plan B if he's been rebuffed by Snyder, Cowher, Gruden, etc. If I remember correctly, two years ago Snyder wanted Williams, but Vinny and Williams wouldn't work together and Snyder opted to keep Vinny. Now that Vinny's gone, there's no obstacle to Williams returning.

In addition to the names already mentioned, I think Charlie Weiss and Mike Holmgren are possibilities. I really think the chances of Shanahan coming here are slimmer than most people think.

Not sure if it's class or if he just wants a paycheck. Still, it's a tough spot for him and the rest of the staff to be in, no doubt.

There definitely is. There always is. I don't know that Vinny/Allen was a total shock. But even the most inside of insiders were completely thrown off by Gibbs and Marty.

I mean I think Shanahan is the most likely right now, but there's absolutely a mystery candidate out there.
