One thing I liked about Gruden's comments, he stated a large part of their discussion was how Barry was going to develop young players.....

hope it works out.

well, i'm not jumping for joy. i guess we'll see, but i was really hoping they could get someone better in here. odds are this is nothing better than a lateral move.

Keim is speculating that he doesn't expect anyone to return, except Olivadotti.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

Baker put a heavy emphasis on teaching technique, angles, hand fighting, and forcing turnovers during training camp and throughout the year. Ryan Kerrigan consistently praised Baker's influence before, during and after the season. Kerrigan finished the best year of his career with 13.5 sacks(7th in NFL) and 5 forced fumbles(T-1st in NFL). On the other side of the ball, Brian Orakpo had a down year with several injuries, finishing with only .5 sacks and on IR. Orakpo was reportedly not as receptive to Baker's instructions. Rookie Trent Murphy replaced Orakpo and started 8 games, finishing with 2.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

^^^ this is so disappointing to hear if correct. as a casual fan you can see orakpo never tried to improve or grow. he just wanted to use the same exact move over and over again .. that outside power rush.

i feel like he tried to get to the Qb every play, whether it was a pass or run.

so much potential for orakpo, hes gone the lavar arrignton route.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

Giving the guy a chance and being upset about the hire are not at all mutually exclusive. We will all be giving the guy a chance because what choice do we have? So please drop that useless rhetoric.

The question isn't what kind of job he'll do, the question is how did we make this hiring decision?

We made it by going with yet another coach Jay is familiar with, despite a much more accomplished coach with a proven record of quick fixing being available.

You can't freak out at the hire till you see the result, so please stifle the obvious give the guy a chance statements. The problem is we once again closed ourselves off to a new way of thinking and again went with someone we know.

It's just another example of why I think Jay Gruden is destined for failure, no commitment to surrounding himself with the best, only with what he knows.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

At this point, I just hope our defense doesn't look like this next season:

A scary precedent was set with Danny Smith. ST was bad with Smith, blocked kicks, so many block-in-back penalties.... then Smith left and we went with a no name coach from bad to horrible. Now we finally got rid of Haslett, and we bring in... another no name.

Likely Fangio would have done the same.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

I believe Barry will be able to improve The D next year..first of all I expect at least 4 new starters on The D ..(between FA and draft) Also what would everybody say if HAZ winds up on another team next year and has a top 10 D ..it could happen! its the players !! we need players first then you can coach them up..Look at Andy Reid, he got run out of philly because they were losing only to take the chiefs to there best season in a long time..same coach different players..I don't care how good our D is …without a TOP QB NONE OF IT MATTERS ANYWAY..the best D player on the team is The QB ..if he can keep drives going and score points that is a HUGE advantage to the D ..more than any single D player can provide..think about it.

sounds like barry's 3-4 is one gap like WP's... which is good, since our NT isn't very good at eating blocks.

Re: 2015 Redskins Coaches/Coordinators News

I don't want to be married to this scheme or that. A green defense and a new coach need to do what is best help the players win. I don't care where they line up before the snap, that should and will need to evolve.
Back in the day, when Richie Petitbone was DC we lined up in a different formation for each down/situation and substituted like crazy. Culminating in a Dime that had DE Charles Mann over the center, Jumpy Geathers over the guard and LB Wilber Marshall & DE Fred Stokes bring the heat from the edge. That defense had 9 guys with 3 or more sacks. Playing team defense and keeping guys fresh. Not having one (Ryan Kerrigan) or two guys have 12+ sacks.
Last season Seattle Seahawks sack leader Michael Bennet had 7 sacks, but 11 players registered a sack.
