Didn't they say somewhere they intend to bring in another QB for competition.

Regardless of whether a qb is drafted or not I expect an open competition in Cleveland this year. Odds of RG3 winning that competition against McCown or a 2nd overall pick: I'd say 10%, but stranger things have happened.

There are different levels of competition. When you invest the #2 pick in the draft you are not looking for a back-up.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016

Let's keep it in perspective, $7.5M per season is about what Chase Daniel got from the Eagles. That might have seemed like a lot of money in the old paradigm but Sam Bradford and Brock Osweiler just got $18M.

This contract signals that RG3 will not be the clear cut starter in Cleveland.

Good for Griffin. He gets a fresh new start. Just surprised that the Browns guaranteed him almost 7 million. There's a chance that he's the 3rd string QB. He's probably not going to beat out McCown, at some point Cleveland is going to want to see the rookie get in there. Just makes no sense to me.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016

I wonder if there were any other places he could have gone. If there were, he probably wouldn't be in Cleveland.

He is going to be the sacrificial lamb thrown out on the field while they rebuild. I hope he doesn't get hurt.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016

a couple things that should worry cleveland fans.

they fell in love with him at a workout (where he doesn't read defences or have to worry about pocket presence), and they paid a lot of money to a guy with nowhere else to go (bidding against themselves).

choice quotes like "i'll take a new QB under my wing", "I've been through more in four years than most people go through in their lifetime." "no one's ever handed me anything"... you mean besides two massive contracts and a starting job in the NFL, right?

have fun in cleveland! i don't see it working out too well, but i guess you never know.

as far as espn asking if they still need to draft a QB now... YES, you do. 100%.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016

Not to mention, " what happened there would break a lot of people." Like what? You getting benched multiple times cause you were not good enough to keep the job? I give it a slim to none chance of him working out in Cleveland. They're not a stable organization and he still isn't a good QB.

Its going to be an uphill battle. I wish Griffin success. Sounds like Hue is giving him a clean slate; and maybe more importantly they better hope Gordon comes back from suspension.

The ink hasn't even dried on his new contract yet and RG3 is already saying lame shit. "What happened would break a lot of people." I want to root for him but he makes it difficult by continuing to show himself as a pompous ass. Take some personal responsibility for your own life and actions for crying out loud.

For better or worse he is who we think he is. I will be rooting for him to be a good qb but won't be surprised it it never happens.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016

Don't be surprised if Hue molds an offense for him like Kyle did. It's obvious that he's still a long ways off from becoming a pocket passer. He likely never will be.

That's the most damning thing here. He has been a free agent for two+ weeks, the only visits he took were the Jets and the Browns.

The Rams have Foles as their best option and they didn't bring Robert in. Elway currently has Sanchez as his best option, and he didn't bring Robert in. The Jets currently have Geno Smith, and aren't willing to go higher than $8M to Fitzpatrick. They kicked the tires on Griffin but didn't bend over backwards to sign him. Houston really needed a QB, and rather than give RG3 a look they figured they'd throw $18M per season at Osweiler who has only played what, 8 games in the NFL?

Teams that really needed a QB aren't interested in him. And Shefter is reporting that Cleveland is still likely to draft a QB with #2 overall.

Most of us understand because we're a fairly knowledgeable board, but Robert really has fallen that far. 2012 is not coming back.

The Browns come to Fed Ex in 2016. I wonder if Griffin even plays. You'd have to say chances are it will be Goff, Wentz, or McCown.
It is not just poor play on the field, it is an ego the size of Texas and a mouth that he continues to talk out of both sides. Even the "QB desperate teams" realize it. The most telling is his working relationship with his last two coaches, dId not end well. That is hard to overlook when grading RGIII.

You KNEW he had a mini-chub just waiting for when he could start making snarky comments. I'm like, dude, was it all you that caused the problems? No, but you WERE part of the problem. This is the stuff that makes it hard for me to root for him.
