Re: Available Cap Room

$10mill is enough to get a real DE (mathis/kampman) and possibly bruce or dyson... the problem is in a couple years when their contracts bloat up and cause a similar situation. sound management can navigate that though.

does anyone have solid details on the new deal? did some cash over cap rule pass? cause if so, that seriously affects FA aquisition.

luckily lavar is off our books now. cutting brunell post june 1 would save us another 5mill this year too (and 1mill next year) and leave us with one unknown at QB, joy.

Re: Available Cap Room

do only the top 53 contracts count on your cap?
if so that takes canucks 116.8mill down by:
4.2mill (bottom 15 contracts of a 69man roster - there are cuts, but they'll be replaced).

4.4mill lavar
10.2mill cuts harris(2), noble(1.7), raymer(1), ramsey(1.7), bowen(2), tupa (600k), hall (1.2)
...(ditching hall requires a replacement beyond tyler jones obviously)
4.68mill SB re-proration samuels(2.7), rogers(.16), moss(.35), portis(.387), taylor(.42), brunell(.287), griffin(.277), rabach (.1)
....(9 players reprorate this year, 5 of which can re-prorate again next year)

116.8 - 23.5mill = 93.3 without turning bonuses into SB and assuming only top 53 contracts will count...

I took canuck's info and looked at all the OBonuses numbers for players, here's were i'm foggy:
It shows 20.856mill in bonuses between all players with contracts through 2009 or 2010 (excluding lavar) for this year. do i just take that grand total, and divide it by 5? if so, that saves 16.4mill this year on top of re-prorations (unless they're included in the OBonuses section). Which means 76.9 currently and 25mill under cap. Is that right? I don't see how that'd be possible.

And again, Do only the top 53 contracts count towards cap?

Re: Available Cap Room

Unless there was a change in the new CBA, only the top 51 should count at this point.

Re: Available Cap Room

Only the top 51 count until final cutdown. Crazy has the Skins at about 115.5M for the top 51 plus dead cap on his cap page.

http://www.thewarpath.net/WarpathRedskinsCap.htm

The cap rose 7.5M but minimum salaries rose 40K per player so that will eat up about 2M of the cap increase.

When a player gets cut another player moves into the top 51 at a 350K salary partially offsetting the cap savings. That's called the rule of 51.

The CBA extension brought about 6M of immediate cap relief to the Skins because LTBE'd incentives in contracts for several players which were there to meet the 30% rule were canceled.

If the Skins restructure contracts for all their biggest salary players and guarantee all their roster boni they can likely get to about 15M under the cap.

20M cap deficit

-5.5M net increase in cap
-6.0M LTBE'd
-9M in cuts Arrington plus the 7 mentioned the other day-RFA tenders
-8M guaranteed roster boni
-6.5M restructures

35M-20M=15M

FWIW..Cash over cap measures make it risky to depend on future increases so I don't see them guaranteeing Springs bonus or restructuring contracts for Brunell Jansen and Thomas which would cut that number by more than 1/2.
