Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
After Moss, Randle El and Lloyd, who is the best receiver among Patten, Thrash and Jacobs?
Advantage: Patten Thrash is a standout on special teams, which will ultimately be what saves him -- but being a wideout who can consistently get open is not the reason he'll be back on the roster. |

Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
I still think Patten is a quality receiver and is better than a 4th or 5th option so keeping him would be wise. We can afford it so I think he should definitely say since he would give us one of the deepest wide receiver corps in the league.

Patten definitely didn't get in the endzone last year. Even in the SanFran blowout he only had 2 catches. Maybe we could try him on returns if gets any of his speed back from the knee injury. Since he is pretty much expendable now, we wouldn't have to worry too much about injuries like we would if ARE was back there. |

Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
I hate seeing the revolving door send more and more purposely signs, trades, of old veterans that never played have to leave with millions. This case is a bit unfortuanate b/c I like Patten, but 9 games shouldnt cost us so much money, however, I think a trade for a CB, or even lineman would be needed yet Id like to see patten take less money and re-work his contract. He missed most last year most important playoff time, and now he overshadowed .Take less money, for less work. Or maybe for once the Skins can try to get a draft pick for next year and not pissing those away too.

I think if we have an option to better use that roster spot, it ll be taken care of to fill it. Jacobs could also be moved.0Thrash uses his spot as a backup wr but is valued in special team coverage.

Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
I think that Gibbs and company have placed a premium on depth at a position where up to five of the same position can be on the field at the same time. Does it make sense to have a very good (if a little expensive) #4 WR? It does if you need to be in a four receiver set, and you'd rather throw to Patten than Taylor Jacobs, or James Thrash, or Antonio Brown, or Jimmy Farris.
The only way this move happens is if Patten asks to leave.

Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
Time will tell; but, what I got from this article was that June 1 was no longer the big deal for scarfing up a few good "cap casualty" players. I don't put too much stock in the sidebar of Patten as an example of someone who might be a cap casualty. At $13 million, Patten is cheap. I'd rather have him in that role than Antonio Brown.
It's a long off-season, ain't it? |

Re: Pastabelly thinks Patten will get axe
With injuries a big issue in the league now, I can't see giving up a talent like Patten. He got a bum rap last season, but is talented and can stretch the field. A healthy Patten would have worked wonders down the road last season.
With Randle-El and Lloyd, Patten's going to fight for a spot...

In Patten's case I don't think it's about the money, it's more about the roster spot. He will be the 4th or 5th receiver on the depth chart and does not play special teams. His salry is hefty for a player who does not play ST and will not be one of the top three at his position. We stand to loose however if we do cut him because of the bonus we signed him too last season. |
