probably, cause brady is a much better QB. that doesn't mean he'd be any good though.

Hardly better at all. He never would have seen the field for a Bill Belichick team because he's a major pussy. And I'm saying that with all seriousness. If Belichick heard Jacobs say something like "They have DBs that run a 4.3, what do you want me to do?" he'd be on the bench so fast he wouldn't know what hit him.

Jacobs doesn't have what it takes. He's completely soft.

Way to stir the pot Dmek. And might I add, good morning (at least for a few more minutes).

Re: Patten thrust back into veteran leader’s role

PS, I used the terem "stir the pot" before I read that TMC had already used it. I'm not into copying like that, it just happens.

Yes he probably would have had a few more catches but the question would it have been that many more? In three seasons o5 11 recp. 100 yards 04 16recp. 178 yards and in 03 3 recp. 37 yards. I would think just by being on the field you could catch that many passes and how many where screen type passes that are almost 100%. If it comes down to Patten or Taylor I would take the experence and the one if he stays healthy could get 30 to 40 recp. for 500 yards. Taylor has just not shown that he can or will catch that many balls.

Because you can rest assured Patten believes he is going to beat these guys out, that is why he asked Gibbs where he stands as far as his committment at the WR position and does the best player play, something tells me Patten isn't going to be happy with the results regardless. Pattens displeasure might be his ticket out. I just don't see him at his age being happy as a 4th WR, he could have stayed in NE if he was happy with that.
This is a very interesting question. I'd have to believe that he would start Patten. But then again, it would be an easy decision if he vastly outplayed Lloyd and Randle El. If it's close, I have to believe the young guys with the cash will be playing. In general, money talks in the NFL.

You asked why all the hate for TJ, like I said Patten is a proven veteran in this league, bottom line. That's why he gets the benefit of the doubt, he has produced, where TJ has done nothing but been injured and been non-existent even when he's on the field. Even if you just want to compare last year Patten outproduced him with spending half the season on IR. TJ had a chance to step up last year with Patten out, and we saw nothing from him at all.

TJ is going into his 4th year now, the time for excuses and second chances are over.

Matty if you really want to compare thier career's fairly, then start at the beginning, Patten wasen't alway's catching TD's from Brady, he originally floundered with the Giants and was eventually cut before he found success in New England. So we can ask what happened to Patten between the Giants and New England? Did he become faster? I doubt it, so what made him a productive reciever on an elite team, compared to a lowsey reciever on a mediocre team? As I stated earlier as well as in the past systems more often than not are responsible for players success, and we have yet to have any kind of legitamate offense in the past 3 years, theres no way to judge TJ until now, is he going to be injury prone the rest of his career? Or has his injuries thus far just been bad luck? You could very well be right and this guy will never be healthy enough to be worth the effort, but I do believe he needs an opportunity under Saunders who seems to be able to utilize all the talent and then some that a WR may have, yes I do agree this is a show or go year, but considering the time we have put into TJ it would be foolish to dump him now before we have a chance to see how he produces for a coach like Saunders. There has to be something special about him if players like Portis are saying he's the best player in the NFL to never have seen the field, I am not a big champ fan but it has to mean something when he said Jacobs may be the toughest WR in the NFC for him to cover.

Last year our offense was top half. So with all the playing time Jacobs got, he should have shown something. I'm all for keeping the guy on the 53 man roster as the 5th WR (ahead of Thrash who also makes the team), but even if he makes it, I have a hard time seeing a situation where he is activated exception to injury. Thrash would be active every week on special teams, and the other 4 on offense. Taylor Jacobs just isn't one of the 46 most valuable players on this team, pure and simple.

I agree, and that is where the problem arises, a player will believe he has outplayed another player but it could be very slight maybe 1 catch or a run after a catch, and so yes he can justify stat wise he outplayed another player does that mean he's neccassarily better? No, so what happens? That player is not happy.

This isn't much different than the Ramsey Brunell compitition, did anyone really believe we gave up 43 mil and a second round pick for Brunell so he can hold a clip board and watch Ramsey play? Same thing will take place here we didn't go out and sign these guys to big money and give up picks so they can backup Patten. Gibbs will make sure these guy's are not outplayed by Patten.

This is I guess a fun question who believes Patten under any circumstances other than injury, will start ahead of either LLoyd or Randel'el?

Re: Patten thrust back into veteran leader’s role

Since Patten was hand picked by this staff, why wouldn't he get to play if he earned a spot?

If he totally outplays Lloyd or Randle El, I have no doubts he will play. But I also doubt he will outplay them.

The key word there is TOTALLY, and I agree I don't think that will happen either, but what if it's marginal? Technically he outplayed them but still gets the 4th WR slot, can he live with that? I do not believe so, it's one of the reasons he signed with us last year to get out of the shadow of the rest of NE WR's. Don't forget although things seem fine now Patten did start to fall out of favor with his complaining last season, that may or may not have significance this pre-season, regardless if he wasen't happy about how he was used last season he will have a real problem this year.

we wont know for sure till pre-season starts cranking but it's alway's fun to speculate.

Re: Patten thrust back into veteran leader’s role

It sounds like Jacobs is the greatest training camp player ever. Maybe he prefers to practice only. Send him to the Pract. Squad
