Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Portis or no Portis. Spring or no Springs it starts in the trenches IMO. The offensive line failed to create holes for the running backs. I do understand that with Portis in the game he may have been able to make something out of nothing but he isn't a miracle worker either. Ladel Betts, as much of a bum as he is he should have had a fighting chance. Brunel has about as much time as it takes for me to say Oh Shit to throw the ball 75% of the time. I cannot comprehend why there is not one running back besides Clinton who can pick up a blitz. The defensive line...if you saw the Cowboy game then I don't think I need to say much more.
i am boosted that Portis is playing this week because he should be able to see those tiny creases and hit them at the right time but the lines MUST step up. HAIL

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
I definitely agree about the O-line needing to step up. That's the one unit I'm probably the most disappointed in so far. They're better than what they've shown so far, alot better.

The Key is Portis. He is the best player in the NFC East. He is probably the 8th best player in the entire League. You notice when he is gone. One last thing about Favre. He has to say he isn't interested in a trade. He doesn't have any options. Look at Steve McNair, he had to hang on and on in Tennessee so he doesn't look like the bad guy and the organization can say we tried and now we need to Reload. Favre would work in Washington. Who else has the stature as an organization to appeal to him. Who else has a defense good enough to make a Run. Who else has all those factors and offensive weapons that Favre would love to have. When I heard Favre say he didn't want a trade, it sounded like the vote of confidence that a GM give the coach before firing him. Favre has to play the good guy, the Packer forever, it makes him easier to deal in the end....

I will be at this game in Houston...I sure hope CP can just light it up and open up some things for this offense.

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Why would we potentially swap a 1st round pick with Denver and not really use the guy??? Portis should get about 60 % of the carries then let Duckett just pound it right down their throats!!! Maybe give betts a few carries for good measure :-)....I really think we need to use this Horse of a man (Duckett)right up the gut!!!

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
I see that the redskins are not really capable of beating anyone without Mr. Portis running the ball. I had predicted a banner year for them, but now I think they stumble too much and better win this week or risk becoming bogged down in the squabbles and finger pointing will start. What an unexpected mess they are in

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Its the little things that portis does that makes him such an asset to our team. I watched inside the nfl on hbo and on the two highlights they showed off brunnell being sacked was greg ellis running through a ladell betts block and greg ware running through a tj duckett block. If there is one thing you can count on is the blocking of portis but if the shoulder isnt 100% how good will his blocks actually be? thats the key question on portis is you ask me right now.

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Personally, I think we need to drop Betts, he hasn't done anything really over the past two years (excluding the KO runback in Tampa Bay in 05). He looked horrible both weeks Portis was out. TJ Duckett hasn't looked much better but I think that he will once he backs up Portis. The Finese/Power should be an extremely potent running game.

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Brett Favre = HAS BEEN. He should have retired last year. Great qb in his day. but his day is long gone.

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
I would gladly take Favre... even next year.
The guy still has it, he's just on a bad team, simple as that. He should have took off this year and went to a winner. Team loyalty is fine and great, but would anyone have blamed him for trying to win another championship elsewhere?? |

Re: Houston, you have a problem.
Morale is really in the shitter when it is Friday and no one has posted a link to the opponents fan site for talking smack.
Then again, I haven't seen any Texans fans stopping by here either.
