Re: Is this lame or what?

This is lame. Fining these spontaneous celebraions hurts the league. The human element of the game is removed. It also stifles the passion of the players. Since Tagliabue became commissioner and FOX began producing the games, there's been a consciencious emphasis on the passionate play of the league, and the NFL replaced baseball as the national past time. Now, a player can't passionately celebrate a good play? That just stifles the heart and emotion that makes this game so great. I just hate how it can be a needless momentum killer now. The team can't rally around big plays. If the actual players can't be passionate about their play. Why would a viewer be passionate about it?

When they put this rule in place I don't think that's the kind of stuff they were looking to get rid of.

Use your head refs.
The penalty was because Santana was standing there posing and Clinton came and did the same thing. Not cause Lloyd picked him up. The ref said that there were two players doing the same pose so it was a penalty. I'm pretty sure it wasn't cause he got picked up, but cause Santana and Clinton were standing side by side with their arms crossed. That said, still a bs call.

That's pretty radical stuff right there...Arms crossed?

Now I can understand the neck slash gesture being banned but arms crossed?

What next? A loitering flag in the end zone if you stop moving?

Utter BS.

Re: Is this lame or what?

The NFL tried to crack down on celebrations (Thank god they stopped Steve Smith, his idewas were awful) but players like Chad JOhnson, Joe Horn, TO have fun with it. This is the big boy league, if that teams feelings get hurt when scored on GOOD. You got scored on, take your ichy shuffle like a man!

I think the clebration rule is dumb. They should restrict the time the guys are there but I used to love things like the fun bunch jump and the dirty bird dance.

I think the Fun Bunch is one of the main reasons that this rule ever came to be. Apparently a dallas player decided to break it up a long time ago and a fight broke out.

I watched the NFL replay of the game last night and that flag was unbelievable, especially since leftwhich picked up reggie williams and carried him in the 4th.
However, it may actually have been called on Portis because he stood next to Moss with his arms crossed for about .05 seconds, so maybe they considered that a group celebration.

Re: Is this lame or what?

Clearly two guys standing next to each other and posing the same for 1 second is way worse than Chad Johnson doing the Funky Chicken for 10 seconds and looking like a complete dumbass. What a dumbshit rule.

Re: Is this lame or what?

amd, the game you are referring to was right after Clark scored on Dallas, and the fun bunch was lining up, Dennis Thurman tried to get in the middle and prevent it. it didn't work and started a scuffle. i say let them celebrate. and if you dont want it, stop them from scoring

Re: Is this lame or what?

For once in my life I was right!!!!!

In Gibbs' press he was talking about the flag on the celebration and said that it actually wasn't thrown because Lloyd picked up Moss; it was because a player (it was Portis) stood next to Moss and crossed his arms in a similar fashion. The refs interpretted this as a pose and the flag came out.
It's kind of BS, but I guess i understand it in terms of the rule. Plus, it explains why the jags didn't get a flag later on.

Re: Is this lame or what?

Yeah, this rule came in to kiss the ass of dull-ass and to scr*w us. Sounds familiar? I mean, it really makes sense eliminating group celebrations. (Don't high-five, you will be flagged for choreography!) After all, football is an individual sport, right? OOPS!

I don't think it was Clark though. That was before GC's time I believe
