I don't think Spurrier thought he had a boatload of talent... but I don't think it mattered to him... he believed in his system and was going to keep at it, win or lose. He was going to use players that knew his system, regardless of their proven ability. I agree that he didn't work hard enough and he didn't make the team work hard enough.
But then again, any system with no pass protection, a lousy RB and a young QB is going to have problems, regardless of how hard they work. |

Discipline is great, but execution scores points. I just don't see the Giants doing a lot of that this year.

I could go either way... but I think the difference is that several Giant players admitted "giving up". They won't "give up" for Coughlin.

I would agree that the cupboard is currently not bare.
Gibbs went out and got the talent he needs to be competitive. |

It was mostly already here. O-line, stacked. Wideouts, stacked. Most important is he's bringing some order, something we've lacked since '01.

To Dave Butz: From discipline comes execution.

RedskinRat, I completely understand that and would expect that to be true, but in time. For King to say that this new discipline that Coughlin is bringing will translate into wins for NY faster than Gibbs will is a pipedream. In time it could, but the premise of the article was to debate about who would produce wins faster.
Even with a new found sense of purpose, I don't think the players the Giants have at the skill positions will be able to translate that to wins in a hurry. I especially don't see it happening quickly since he is bringing in such strong discipline and it'll take him a year or two to get "his" guys. We've already seen evidence of that. And oh yeah! with heartfelt apologies to the Ramones... Twenty Twenty Twenty Four Posts to Go, I'm Gonna Lose My Beanie...

I like Arrington's approach to the team's potential (upgraded coaches/players)...he said something like we are a 5-11 team right now until we prove otherwise...
My goals: 1st step - progress beyond being pathetic 2nd step - win more games then you lose 3rd step - be feared by your opposition and gain some pride 4th step - make the playoffs 5th step - become a threat to run the table I hope we take a lot of steps this year. However, after what we've been going through, I'll be estatic if we take the 3rd step this year. No predictions here..just alot of hope I can go to a home game against the Giants/Cowboys this year and feel proud and excited rather than embarrassed by the over abundance of people in blue shitting on us.. |
