I think there's more discussion involving the offense because most people here believe it's the least difficult phase to fix. The tools are there to make things better.

For the defense? Not so much.

Exactly. That's why I get somewhat annoyed when people defend Brunell by saying things like, "why replace him when the defense is just as responsible for our struggles?" While I agree that the D is probably even more responsible, somethings got to give with this team and I don't think they can make a midseason adjustment to 8 of the players on defense.

Re: What is our offensive identity?

I see nothing wrong with the screens, when executed they can be deadly. They were a staple of a team that was 10-6 last year, BUT our big problem right now is we're not establishing the running game well enough. We really need to start hitting people in the mouth. 14 carries for Portis isn't going to cut it under any circumstances.

Listen to Portis, Al. He wants to run the ball, and he wants to pound it between the tackles.

Could it be that MB won't throw the ball down the damn filed? I think that's what that point is based on! HAIL from MCUSA!

What ever happened to the "vertical" passing game? Maybe if we pound the rock, play action could actually be a viable option. Screens are fine when the defense is off balance, but not every time we are in 3rd and long! HAIl from MCUSA!

Pretty basic football right there... exactly what we need.

Re: What is our offensive identity?

Let's just remember that when Todd Collins came to the team he said this offense would take a year to fully digest.

A full year.

The problem with that is that is that it seems like this team was built for short term success. We have all these big contracts out there that are backloaded, meaning that many of our big FA signings probably won't be around too long before they either need to be restructured or cut. I guess that begs the question, did we try to do too much by bringing in Saunders?

yes, EXACTLY, any offense takes time to master.

thats why we should wait till Brunell is 37.

Oh yeah, that was the other point I meant to make before.

If this system was expected to take so long to get than we should have let Campbell lead it from the beginning. Then again, that thought is made in hindsight, because we all thought we were going to the Super Bowl this season.

that thought wasn't in hindsight for everybody. a ton of us here begged for Campbell to get more practice time during the preseason.

not that we didn't appreciate Brunell last season, but with a whole new offense coming in this offseason, many of us questioned the benefit of investing time trying to teach Brunell new tricks.

Brunell could be 40 before he gets this system. He looks way too lost.

Re: What is our offensive identity?

Brunell can't or doesn't want to throw anything past 10 yards.
