i don't have any real problems with video game prices (its a lot fo work/content, and most have at least 40 hours or so of gameplay in them... better than movies, interactive too).
sega tried the branding war with EA, EA outspent them and it was over. being the cheaper alternative is really a much better way to get a fanbase. first, its cheap, so you might think "why not?" and pick up a copy... after trying it, you see its almost as good as madden "but its soo much cheaper"... if they get a fanbase, then they can work on making it better. unlike sega, they own media channels which the perfect demographics and can get cheaper ad rates. either way, more competition means either cheaper nfl games, or better ones... so i'm not going to complain. |

Electronic Arts has today announced that it will release a Collector's Edition of Madden NFL 2005 exclusively for the PS2 in August. The $59.95 Collector's Edition, which celebrates the popular series' 15th year, will ship with what can only be described as a lot of Madden-related goodness not included with the regular version of the game.
In addition to the regular version of Madden NFL 2005 in limited edition collectible packaging, the Collector's Edition will include: playable classic versions of Madden from the 16-bit era and two from the PlayStation era, a Madden trivia challenge with over 1000 questions, "Madden Moments" spanning the past 15 seasons, and historical playoff teams from the past 15 years--each with their authentic uniforms. Other goodies exclusive to the Collector's Edition will include: bonus video content including footage of "The Madden Phenomenon", "The Music of Madden", and a documentary looking into how the game is developed every year from scratch. |

i have madden from 1989 sitting around somewhere i think... it'll run on 8-bit systems though i believe...
ESPN 2005 looks good. I don't think i'd bu madden for anything but pc... i like my keyboard and my better graphics one thing i don't like about madden though is the announcers... i'd love them if they were anything like real announcers, but everything they say is super generic and repetitive... i really think the should spend more time cleaning that whole system up (and learn how to use cross fades on the speech :P ). |

ESPN is worth getting just to look at its dynamic player animations. there are orders of magnitude more in ESPN than in Madden (check out the new juke stick). the broadcast presentation and extras are super polished but means a lot less to me than constantly being surprised by new contextual animations in the game itself.
if you're bred on Madden it won't change your mind, but for $20 and 3 weeks while you wait for madden you really should partake in all the excellent work Sega and ESPN put into it, just as a football fan. http://www.espnvideogames.com/news/m...hive.php?gid=7 if you look at one, look at this one... http://www.espnvideogames.com/_img/v...StickHands.mpg |

loved that run of Portis on the cowgirls :bigthumb:
I am definately getting this game and an x-box after seeing those clips. I knew there was some difference between the ps2 and the x-box in graphics and framerates but I didn't know it was that much of a difference. has anyone else wondered why they haven't done something to provide players with a way to have their created players names spoken during a game? it would sound a bit choppy probably but I came up with a way they could do it. I don't know how they'd go about doing this with the technology but they should have sets of different common syllables to mix and match and allow the player to get a combination close enough to their name. like for johnson it'd be john added with son or davison would be dave + is + son. cuz i know i 4 one hate hearing "and quarterback throws another touchdown" or "#11 is having a career day." or use the headset feature to speak in your created players name and that sound byte can be inserted in each time they'd be saying the players name. or maybe that's just me, lol. |

yeah, using phonemes like you describe works horribly yamaha has done a decent job, but it takes over 700mb of audio and lots (and lots and lots) of processing power... if its gonna sound like total ass, i rather them just say quarterback. Having you speak the name would work, but the headset mics suck and having two voices every sentence would annoy me personally
btw, the sportscenter clip has the redskins hit the packers 38-24, and shows brunnel's stats as 16 of 27, 411 yds, 4 TDs... thats a 26 yard completion average or 15 yards per passing attempt... hot damn... the ESPN crew has much cleaner announcing (though slightly more annoying voice)... they use cross fades properly so it doesn't sound as horribly choppy as madden matchups do... |

Anyone play ESPN NHL Hockey? That is probably ESPN/Sega's best game yet. Can't wait for 2k5 coming in September. May be the only hockey we see this year.
Back to football-I like ESPN's VIP system of scouting your online opponent's tendencies. I'm gonna be like the ol JOe Gibbs pulling allnighters preparing for my matchup. |
