Also, just for the sake of grading his progression, here is his QB rating each week (number in parentheses is ranking of that team's pass defense)

Wk 13 vs Atlanta: 52.2 (26)

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I gave him a B+ (which wasn't an option). He's making the mistakes I would expect him to (like not sliding - man, that was scary), and he is showing flashes of greatness (TD pass to Moss a couple weeks back). All this with minimal first team practice. My expectations next season, however, are going to be through the roof compared to this season.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

As of his quaterback play in general I would have to give Campbell a "C-" his play last night brought his grade up but as far as potential I would give him an "B" to an "B+"

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

Well with all other things considered, I'd give him a B. I think his scrambling ability to just buy some extra time and pick up some short first downs is a great asset to this team. He has some timing issues to work on, and become a little smarter, but I couldn't be happier with what I have seen from him thusfar. I thought he played very very well and I'm excited to see him next year.

Wk 4 vs Steelers: 52.1
Wk 5 vs Browns: 63.2
Wk 6 vs Denver: 85.0

Wk 11 vs Minnesota: 76.0

Season Stats: 214/377 (56.8%) - 2547yd - 11TD - 12 INT - 74.0 rating

There are plenty of other young QB's you can dig up who had pretty bad first years (I posted a comparison of Jason's first season to Peyton's first season a while back), and went on to become really outstanding. Jason's QB rating through his first 7 games is pretty good, IMO -- smack in the middle of Leinart/Palmer territory, and for my money, I'm extremely happy with that.

I know a lot of guys here are saying they have astronomical expectations for the kid next year, and I think we all want to have those, but I don't think it's that uncommon for a good QB to take an extra year to develop fully. I just hope when that happens, Jason is still wearing burgundy and gold.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I gave him a B. While his stats appear to show him as an average QB, I think that there are a few things that I take into account that make me very happy with his performance.

1. The other QBs who's stats are listed for comparison (thanks dgack) didn't start as the third team QB with virtually no practice reps with the first team offense. Campbell did very well under that senario.

2. Some QBs fall apart under pressure or after they screw up (like throwing an INT). Campbell has shown remarkable resilience under those circumstances. He appears to thrive under pressure and gains focus after mistakes. Although he appears quite and poised, this shows how competative he really is.

3. He keeps his eyes down field even when he is under pressure and still has the physical skills and feel for the game to make things happen with his feet. He has done it every game and defenses have to respect that or they get burned.

How he will fair in grasping the entire offense, looking off receivers, throwing accuracy.... that is all up in the air, but the things listed above we now know about him. I'm pretty happy. (So lets fix the defense!)

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

Like what he said above, for his circumstances Campbell has done above average. But there is room for improvement.

Needs to works on short routes and quick throws because he still seems to be a few steps behind the D. It is almost like he needs people to be WIDE open(except on Fly routes) to throw it to them.

He also needs to work on cutting down the windup and somehow see if that stance can be altered. Any extra seconds are good for a young QB.

Kid needs to learn how to slide, or he is gonna get his head taken off.

I gave him a B. Good stats for a first year stater in his 6th offense in 6 years. I think we will see a much more polished QB next year. He and Moss ( along w/ the other WR's) will work out their timimg issues.

Solid B...You can't ask for anything more out of a QB's 1st 7 starts. He played well enough to win most of those games were it not for the worst defense in the NFL backing him up.

With Palmer he was named the starter right after his 1st season so he got all the off season work. I think Jason is going to be fine going into next year. Off season work is where it all starts and that is why Peyton is so on point with his WR's. Moss, LLoyd and ARE had better be here during the off season if they expect to get better.

Curve based on his youth and inexperience. If he had been starting all along making some of the mistakes he has made his grade would be around a C-.

I like the upside, I like the confidence, I like the arm strength, and the seemingly leadership abilities. Not to mention the way he steps up in the pocket.

I dont like some of the decision making, some of the accuracy issues, although I think these things can be fixed.
I think this is the best assessment of Campbell's play . While I loved the way he played last night I am not going to get all hyped about it, not just yet, just as did not get down on him on his bad days

It is still a wait and see process

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I'm giving Jason a B. His play in just seven games has far exceeded my expectations. He's gained invaluable experience, and once he get's more time with his recievers, he's going to be beautiful to watch. He has no flaws that can't be fixed.

Hey, Dgak...can you run those numbers for Vince Young, T. Romo, and Rivers over the same seven games?

An A? Come on guys...I know we like the guy, but let's not see what wasn't there. He was OK at best. I gave him a C. He was extremely inconsistent, and just because he wasn't afraid to throw down field, doesn't mean he gets an A. He definitely has a lot of potential, and has shown a lot of life, but he missed a lot of open receivers, some very short throws that bounced. He'll be an A eventually, but not even close this year.
