does'nt matter what race anybody is if that person is leading his team in the winning category.the o line always gets no credit, and all the
criticism anyhow.if humpty dumpty can come in and get the redskins to the superbowl, freeze him before every game, and put him under center!

He actually reminds me more of Doug Williams than anybody else; cool, calm, collected, and throws like Williams and has arm strength like DW had when he played here. Of course him wearing #17 helps in the comparison as well!

I watched Doug Williams play his entire time here in Washington and quite a bit at Tampa. I personally can't think of one quarterback that Jason Campbell reminds me of more than Doug Williams.

The physical dimensions, the delivery, the whole nine. Very similiar styles and demeanors.

Eh? Ever seen Rex Grossman play? By that argument they are both equal, which of course they aren't. I agree with others when they say he's a bit overrated in the same way Vick was overrated. But if Young works on that arm he should have a fine future ahead of him.

Oh, and my point about Rex Grossman is that you really need to give the O-line, defense, etc their dues. I really hate the theory that every game is won or lost on the shoulders of the QB. Remember that game when the Titan's D had 3 TDs?

I got the chance to see VY play in Austin quite a few times. There is nobody right now that is as exciting at the QB position in the NFL. This guy just has that something special and NEVER gets flustered. He believes he is a winner and everyone around him buys into his calm and cool demeanor. You saw it the second half of the season and the Titans will be a good football team because VY will rub off on the players.

I don't think he will be the best QB in the league, but I do think he will eventually win a NFL championship someday because VY wakes up every morning and pisses excellence!

Kordell Stewart wasn't even brought into the league to be a franchise quarterback but rather was envisioned more as an ARE type player, plus he never had the size or the skill set Young has, and he played a completely different style when he did finally become a starter. He was in the league several years before he even got a real chance at QB, and when he did it was more out of necessity than anything else. So what the hell does that have to do with Vince Young? It's a piss poor comparison.

Young has shown a profound ability to make tough throws. I guarantee you his completion percentage will go up as he continues to learn and grow as a QB. Besides, the only stat that matters is w's, and Young has those. He's a winner, and that goes beyond stats.

I wasn't attacking you personally and I'm surprised by the hyperbole of your response. I just think your arguments are el-lameo, albeit somewhat common in sports punditry. I'm sorry but McNabb, Mcnair, Vick, and Kordell are not all different examples of the same type of quarterback who were all able to learn with varying degrees of success about "the pocket passing to win scenario" - as you totally just suggested - and it's intellectually sloppy to group them together. Why doesn't anyone compare Young to Brett Favre, a gutsy mobile qb with a rocket who isn't afraid to take chances, who can will a team to victory through moxy alone, and who brings an improvisational dynamism to the field with every play?

And if you don't believe me on anything else, believe me on this. Exchanges like this are not the reason racism is alive in the world today, lol!
I totally agree with you. If you listen to the media, they propagate this mind set more than anyone. They tend to refer to black quarterbacks...as 'great athletes'...and caucasion quarterbacks as 'smart' or 'gutsy'.

It's these types of generalizations, if you will, that has sort of been blindly passed on to the fans of the sport.

Yeah, but Grossman plays on a remarkable team, and is the weak link if anything. They win in spite of him. Young plays on a team that was supposed to be rebuilding, that jettisoned its core for salary cap reasons, and that was expected to maybe win 5 or 6 games. Not only has he inspired them to rally around him, he has been able to single handedly take over games in the fourth quarter. Of course the LT has to block and the receiver has to catch the ball, and if your D can put up 21 that helps too, but there is a certain intangible element to Young's play that stats can't quantify, but wins and losses can. This has been evinced multiple times this year, particularly in the fourth quarter. Can anyone really argue with me, that Young's completion percentage doesn't tell the whole story? How good he ends up being remains to be seen, but he has that certain something - a kind of demeanor - that great winners in every sport seem to have. I for one am glad to be watching.

The major difference I see is the mobility that Campbell brings to the table. By the time Williams replaced Schroeder, he was a virtual statue in the pocket, and his knees were pretty well shot. As a passer though, Campbell does remind me of Williams, which is a high compliment.

I was thinking the same thing Sunday. Before then, I was thinking he reminded me a lot of Steve Young. Not Micheal Vick in terms of moves, but very elusive and throws great on the run, much like Young.

If anything, Campbell is even more of a beast than both Culpepper AND Steve Young.

Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.

I really don't understand how people are saying the VY is overrated. The man comes in as a rookie an wins games with a team that is not that good. He has absolutely no stud players on offense that he can give the ball to, their defense is not a powerhouse, and yet he still is able to get wins. How is he overrated? Look at the other rookie QBs in the game and who they have around them. Leinart has TWO stud receivers in Bolden and Fitzgerald, plus he hands the ball of to Edgerrin James! Cutler has a great running attack, Jevon Walker, and a nasty defense. Young has none of these luxuries and he still wins, somebody please explain to me how he is overrated, it's a mystery to me. Call up Scooby Doo and gang, tell em to hop in the mystery machine because they got a hot one to solve. The mystery of Vince Young and his status as an overrated player.

VY has had a great rookie year, he's probably a lock for ROY but let's chill on crowning his ass just yet.

I could not agree w/ u more. His pocket game will come in time once he gets more experience. Remember he's just a rookie. With Chow as his OC the sky is the limit for this kid.
