As always, and until more is known, reasonable conservation measures should be taken. Simply cutting down on usage of paper products - i.e. use towels and cloth products instead of paper towels and napkins - would eliminate incredible amounts of fossil fuels. How much trash do you throw out? How much of it is waste paper products? How much of your trash could be replaced by reusable items? Mandatory industrial standards (such as in Kyoto) would simply destroy productivity and, in turn, create more not less waste. The earth has been here for millions of years and we have been on it for thousands. With reasonable care and foresight, we will both probably be here for some time more.

Re: Not All Scientist Believe In Global Warming
The polar ice caps are melting. Ice that has been frozen for over 10,000 years is melting. Ice the size of small countries is breaking away and floating south, where it will melt completely. That is proof that the average temperature is rising in that area.
The ice caps most likely play an important role in the oceans. Life on Earth could be drastically affected when the ice caps melt away. Don't make it seem like there is no reason to be worried. That said, we can't do a damn thing about it. So smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

Re: Not All Scientist Believe In Global Warming
As was stated earlier, there is little dispute that global warming is occurring; the only real dispute is how much human activity affects it.
Obviously, the melting caps is a concern. Will it have dramatic effects on human devolopment? probably yes. Is it the end of the world as we know it? probably not. Again, humanity and the earth have adapted and modified over thousands (i.e. longer than the caps have been around) of years. The Sahara was once a lush area that supported human life but over the span of ~300-350 years it became desert as the earth changed its rotation (think of that - the Earth changed its axis and human life survived. That is some significant adapting). Given the vast increase in population and creation of cities - global warming will have significant affect on humanity over time. It is my belief, however, that any number of unknown scientific breakthroughs (neccessity being the mother of invention) will probably prevent the doom and gloom predictions of those milking the tit of global warming fear. At the same time, perhaps now is not the time to invest in that beachfront property.

Re: Not All Scientist Believe In Global Warming
thread title is WRONG. global warming is pretty well accepted as fact - as for what causes it and who to blame for what percentage... well, there are about four million theories on that.

Re: Not All Scientist Believe In Global Warming
Yeah, because movies are more trustworthy than scientists.
Especially movies made by insane people. I love how every time Gore goes somewhere to speak about his global warming theories and how it's my fault, it's always abnormally snowing or cold. He spoke in New York a few years ago and they had a record blizzard when his speech was scheduled. In Boston, he "brought" record low temps for an event. He went to Australia last year and it snowed for the first time in decades for his speaking engagement. I think that shows who's in charge of the weather...God. He also has a great sense of humor!
