Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I agree that you don't want to overpay for his services but this is the corner washington has painted itself into, if they don't resign him then they have to go out and sign someone else to start (because we haven't developed anyone behind him to step in and start, but thats another thread for another time) then you have to fight the preception that they won't take care of their own free agents. Because we all know that if he leaves the FO will go throw a lot of money at some other FA guard and then in a year from now we will be talking about Dockery just like Ryan clark.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
This thread is just like the John Jansen thread and how he might be gone this year. Stop jumping to conclusions on everything that has or has not happened. I keep seeing people getting mad over things they "THINK" the skins might do and they have not done anything as of yet.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
the time to get another OG to replace dockery was last year when we had 2nd and 3rd round picks, the draft was deep there, and there'd be a year to get the new guy ready. this isn't the year to try and find someone else with little cap room and no draft picks.

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
Q: Is it important for this team to maintain stability on the roster as much as possible?
A: "It all boils down to the [personnel officials] knowing what they have. You can't listen to outsiders who say, 'This [player] hasn't done anything for this team.' Some guys may not have had a fair chance to show what they can do. With that in mind, the only thing you can do is try to bring everybody back and hopefully things go a little bit better. You have a new offense, new quarterback, new running back, and as far as getting something out of it, you can see promise for next season." This was Santana Moss in a Redskins.com interview. If The Skins don't sign Dock longterm they are on Mars. Seeing him develope under Bugel has been awesome. He came in a fat mush and now he's got Pro Bowl potential (maybe I'm bias a bit). Keep ALL (96%) the players and upgrade through the draft for Defense. Maybe one or two free agents and that's it......... |

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
I'm all in favor of keeping Dock at a fair price... we can't let him name his price just for the sake of trying to correct the wrongs of the past.
He's not the top guard available, I think we'll wait and see how high the bar is set by the signings of guys like Steinbach and move to re-sign Dockery accordingly. |

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
as far as im concerned, dockery has proven he can be an integral part of one of the top o-lines in the league. id give him a similar contract to steinbach because we need to learn to establish that once you come here, perform well, and show improvement that we'll overpay for our OWN.

How much would it cost to put the franchise tag on him? Is it already too late for that anyway?

Re: Should Dockery Be Re-signed Before Free Agency Starts (next Friday)
So I asked here at work what the real scoop is and apparently Dock (well, his agent I suppose) is asking for serious money. As in he wants to be the highest paid offensive lineman (includes tackles, not just guards) in the NFL. The market is apparently a little cool for him so the Skins expect he'll lower his demands.
Anyhow, that's the latest

I don't think we need to overpay for Dockery, we need to pay a fair market price and if someone else wants to give him a ridiculous contract, oh well.

I say let the market decide his price and go from there. |
