OK, I know I am going to get it with this game... but I think we made a mistake getting rid of Frerotte.... We had a QB so tough, he could give himself a concussion... how many teams could say that?????

If we would have stuck with Gus, instead of the likes of danny wowful and jeff george, we may have made the playoffs once in a while

Re: Who's the BEST Skin of ALL TIME???????????

Jack Kent Cooke....or Joe Gibbs....or Bob Beatherd

Probably the most effective player I can remember was Dave Butz...apologies to everyone else but this guy took two or three offensive line men on almost every play allowing Manley and Mann to go one on one. They got the praise and Pro Bowls...he did the dirty work making their success possible. The guy was a beast.

Others who deserve mention are Kenny Houston who was the best safty to ever play the game at the time of his retirement, Charlie Taylor who was the top reciever in NFL History when he left the game and played during a run dominated era, Darrel Green obviously, Sonny Jergenson, John Riggins, Art Monk, Sammy Baugh and Chris Hanberger. Oh and one other guy...he doesn't really belong here but he was my favorite Skin as a kid because he never gave up and didn't have the most talent but still succeeded, he embodied what the "Over the Hill Gang" was all about...Billy Kilmer.

Re: Who's the BEST Skin of ALL TIME???????????

I grew up in southeast TN where the only close team was the red-panted falcons. DG is the main reason I became a skins fan. Just loved watching him play. Best AND fave goes to DG for me. After that, I'm going to start picking Hogs, starting with Joe Jacoby, who gets bonus points for having done a Hardee's fried chicken commercial.

Re: Who's the BEST Skin of ALL TIME???????????

I apologize for the book report, but I think some of you might learn something.

First, let me say I grew up with the Redskins during DG's heyday and to this day my best memories of the Skins are in large part due to Darrell Green, who is probably one of the greatest men to ever play any sport, both from a talent and personality standpoint. That said, and with all due respect to my fellow warpather's, Sammy Baugh is the greatest Redskin of all time and it really isn't that close.

Here is a little background for you. The guy was drafted out of TCU and lead the league in passing his rookie season leading the Skins to a Championship that year over the Bears (335 yards and 3TDs in that game). He proceeded to lead the league in passing 6 more times during his 16 year season, a feat only matched by Steve Young. He threw for 6 TD in a game twice. He had the lowest interception percentage in the league 5 times, more than any player ever. In 1945, he threw for a 109 passer rating, still the 6th best EVER.

When the Redskins intoduced the "T" formation, Sammy was the first player to combine the passing responsibilities of the Tail Back with the play calling responsibilities of the Wing Back, and in doing so Sammy was essentially the first play to play the QB position as we know it today. He essentially turned the forward pass into a useful weapon in the NFL and probably changed the game more than any single player. He is argueable the greatest QB ever when viewed relative to the period of play. (It should be noted that Sammy played in the "dark" years of the NFL where segregation was the rule and therefore, just like Ruth, didn't face many talented players due to their race.)

Now for the best part, the guy was THE dominant D-back of his time, leading the lead in INTs several seasons and holds the NFL record for most INTs in a game with four. Furthermore, he is also probably the greatest punter ever, with a career average of 45 yards/punt that still to this day ranks 2nd all time.

In 1943, he maxed out at all three positions and lead the league in passing, punting, and INTs, the only person in NFL history to lead the league in both defensive and offensive stats.

If you don't believe me, the AP voted Sammy the 3rd greatest NFL player OF ALL TIME and ranked him in the top 50 ATHLETES of all time, the Sporting News rated him the 11th greatest NFL player of all time. ESPN ranked him the 64th greatest athlete of the 20th Century.

So again, with all due respect to Darrell Green, Sammy Baugh was Darrell Green, Payton Manning, and Reggie Roby all wrapped in one, and hence, he is without question the Greatest Redskin of all time.

Sammy Baugh was a great player, in my mind the second greatest redskin ever, but he played in a time were there wasnt as much competition, he lead the league in passing because no one else threw the ball, still he was an incredible athlete. But, Darrell Green was a dominant player for almost 20 years at one of the most difficult positions to play, he had world class speed and was the first real shutdown corner ever. All of this at 5'8" and what? 180 lbs. Just my opinion though, as you will get nothing from this but peoples opinions.

I mentioned Kenny Houston but him spending much of his great career in Houston is a point well taken.
