If it's an addiction, then you're talking about spending a high draft pick and millions of cap room on a player that can't take the field when he fails a drug test.

This is a good point. One thing for sure is that the habitual use of marijuana should certainly be viewed as a character issue in league circles.

But, this admittence alone should not be enough to make us change our mind on any of these prospects.

The article dosent say...these guys smoke pot. THe article said, they have admitted to smoking pot.

I'm 21 years old, I dont smoke pot....I have in the past though. Thats all these guys are admitting too is doing it in the past. This really isnt an issue at all.

I personally think alcohol abuse is way worse than marijuana abuse, but the bottom line is testing positive for pot will get you suspended. That'll alienate their teammates, and piss off the fans and the FO of whatever team they play for. But I say good for them for being honest. As long as it's not a regular thing to where it would show up in a piss test, then more power to 'em.

Very good point. It is illegal like it or not, that also applies in the NFL.
With these personal conduct issues or the cracking down on them, you can bet organization's that still have a few brain cells left that will be paying big dollars for these picks, will be looking deeper into these type issues.

If they are tested, which I'm sure they probably are at some point prior to the draft and they are clean, no harm, no foul.

I agree, the article did not say that they were active users.......but it also didn't say that they were not active users. It simply said that they have admitted that they have "used" marijuana. That's a pretty vague term if you ask me.

My only point was that such a statement would, to me, signal a need for further research and/or additional questions regarding the extent of that use. I'm only saying that teams should care because of the potential impact on the team if it becomes a problem (as opposed to what everyone else on this thread is trying to turn the issue into: i.e. whether the moral police should condone the use of marijuana or not......that's not the issue).

I also applaud their honesty.

And no, I've never tried it and I have no reason to.
