Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Tank is a great football player, he'd upgrade our D Line automatically,
he did his time and this new mishap seems to be just that, a mishap, no charges filled ......Id give him the benifit of the doubt and sign him to the vet minimum,,,,Cant hurt to have help where we hurt most last season ms |

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Honestly, there's people in this league a lot worse-off. I'd consider him without a doubt. I won't say vet minimum, but I'll definitely say a one year deal with a behavioral clause.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I can guarantee there's no way this front office is seriously considering this guy. I applaud the Bears for acting swiftly with him. They gave him a clear order to keep his nose clean, and it didn't take long at all for him to F things up.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
If he played ANY other position but DL I'd say no way. BUT, given our line problems, I'd take him.
BTW - since he is still under his rookie contract, he is waived and does not have outright release UNLESS all 32 teams pass on him. Instead, the claiming team gets him for two years at the rookie contract minimums (He got all his money in his rookie signing bonus). So, if we claim him off waivers, we get him for 8 games this year and a full season next year at the minimums.

I don't [get] people like this...psst, you can pay someone to drive you all year round for maybe 35K-40K a year...and you don't need a degree in decision science to figure that out.
I don't want Mr. Stupidson in D.C.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Let's see a recent DUI arrest and he got nailed with 6 unregistered firearms. Can you say BAD NEWS!!!!!! Sure, it would be very tempting to get him since our D line woes, but I think the league is going to try and clean up its act with this stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if he sits a year before being signed anywhere til the smoke clears. OF course I can be wrong, but who wants to be the team that is seen picking up another teams dirty laundry. The NFl has an image problem it badly needs to reverse.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Anybody who pursues Tank Johnson prior to NEXT season, is an idiot.
For starters, he has that 8 game suspension. That also means he cannot use team facilities for any reason. He is essentially banned from the clubhouse. So he cannot use the fitness facilities, fitness coaches, dieticians etc. So you loose him for half the season, and probably will not be in the best of shape when he shows up week 7. Two....the guy has proven over again that he simply cannot be trusted to stay out of situations that lead to trouble. You can bet that the Bears organization had him on a very short leash after he got out of jail. I am sure the organization let him know in no uncertain terms that the slightest hint of trouble would lead to his release. But yet, he tested the system anyway, almost like he dared them. He needs to take a year off and prove he can stay out of trouble and can contribute. All he has proven thus far, that he cannot contribute while he is suspended or in jail. If I were a GM, I would not want to burn a roster spot on a guy that probably will not be playing anyway. |

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
IMO, Gibbs will coach a guy that has problems if he thinks the guy has redeeming qualities. e.g. He never turned his back on D. Manley, despite DM saying stupid stuff to the press, getting busted for drugs, etc.
that said, there's a difference between having personal problems such as an addiction and being a true criminal. Granted that drugs are illegal as is driving drunk, but guys like Tank & Pacman seem not too bothered by criminal behavior, their own or others. As individuals who are really young, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and let them mature, but for this season, I don't see Tank suddenly growing up. Yeah, he could mature a lot in the 8 game suspension, but he could also fall apart due to the lack of structure in his life that football gave him, get fat, out of shape or in trouble again. I'd be shocked if we signed this guy. |

For those out there that really believe we will take a look at this CLOWN your on major drugs. And help the team out AUTOMATICALLY..??? EXPLAIN THAT..? The dumb ass is suspended for the first eight games, damn good chance he'll end up losing the entire season before it's said and done. THE COMMISH AIN'T JOKIN! Of course some desperate shitbird team will pick up this LOSER, but he won't be landing in DC! ANY WAGERS?

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
It's funny to hear the responses, cause they are the same on each thread when it comes to someone that just got released with a somewhat checkered past.
Tank was released from the Bears for a reason, remember that.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Our D-Line will be fine.....everybody....relax and drink a cold one... or Linebackers or Stonger than ever, Our DB core, is top 10 easy now, with that superstar Rookie.......But I'd take tank because he's so talented that he would be worth it, plus he come cheap..........and wasn't D.
Manley the poster boy for F-up's
