With all the question marks this team has this year, this question mark should be the easiest to answer. I really think they will do well, but you never know. Taylor needs to do a better job of being a team player.
I am sold on Taylor already and there is nothing that anyone else can say or do other than Taylor that will change that. As far as LL is concerned, I agree with you, he needs to prove himself.

Taylor is great, don't get me wrong...but he feels the need to be superman when his partner starts to falter.

I couldn't disagree more - we're going to have the two highest paid safeties in the league down the road. We're spending a boatload of money at one of the lesser important positions. I mean, I hope he turns out to be an impact player, but I don't think we'll look back on this as a good move.

Wouldn't it be smarter to have two great CB's, DE's, WR's, etc... vs. the safety position? I still can't believe we drafted this guy instead of a D-Lineman. I think it'll set our franchise back years. When we DID draft him, I was positive that Gibbs had a veteran DE in the works - but so far nothing.

WTF are we thinking? Am I the only one nervous about this move?

Ok - that said, I want to be optimistic about this season - so I won't bring it up again...

I agree.
At some point, the Skins will have to trade Taylor (assuming he improves) for pro-bowl CB DT DE or WR.
We only need 1 great safety...but those other positions are questionable

Yes, you are!

And I hope you don't!

I've wondered whether LL might be getting too much, but I'm not the capologist.

Who's ready to scream their face off at every game (on defense) for the veteran minimum again this year?

Me........
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA MAN I JUST STARTED LAUGHING SO HARD AT THE VETERAN MINIMUM !!!!!! Am I the only one ! I'm ready to scream but the placement of vet min seemed like it was a joke slid into truth. Maybe I was wrong but if that's what it was then damn you're funny ! If not, it was funny to me!

Re: ESPN: LaRon Landry signs!!!!

Assuming we re-sign Taylor (which we better, there's been too much invested by the staff not to), we'll have a lot of cap space devoted to the safety position. I think the strategy of the f.o. is to start building through the draft more & relying upon cheap young talent to replace the vets on the d-line.
I'm not saying that they won't sign any big free agents in the next few years, but I think they'll start to look to the draft next year & after to rebuild the o & d lines, both of which are old.
I'm guessing that they're not concerned that so much will go to the safety position, rather they need to spread the wealth to both sides of the ball. There's been a lot more guaranteed $ on the O side of the ball for a few years.

Dude why wld we want to trade Taylor?? If, and that is BIG IF LL and ST develops into one of best and possibly best of all safety tandem.. Then I don't think we would have much of problem for defense, as Gregg said that they re going to use LL as run stopper and obviously will be used for blitzing more since he wld be closer to the line and ST being ball-hawking.. If those plans work out smoothly.. Then pls can u tell me, what wld be better than that??

Re: ESPN: LaRon Landry signs!!!!

Good news. Now get to work!

As for having lots of $$ at safety, both at present are on rookie contracts. Assuming they resign Taylor to a big deal, the main issue will be whether things work with Landry down the road when he needs his big payday.

Clearly, Williams is banking that 2 kick-ass safeties will make his D work. Wonder if other D coordinators would have made the pick? Wonder what will happen if GW leaves, and his replacement has to deal with all that cash at safety?

But I am optimistic. Yes, we have lots of $$ there, but I'm all for taking the best talent available and making it work. And it's a moot point about other picks--LL is our guy!

Re: ESPN: LaRon Landry signs!!!!

Doesn't sound like he's inked the deal yet? It's not offical as per the redskins.

Landry Deal Is Close
