Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
History sucks.
But it's true. However, as the Brunell/Portis haters fail to grasp, just because a guy is past is prime does not mean he loses all his value to his team. We're more than set at RB, I just don't think we have one of the leagues best. Its OK, because in a few years, we will have one of the leagues best QBs. |

Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
I gotta give some love to the Tripp. His opinions are consistently the most even-handed and realistic of just about any member on this site.
I agree that Portis will still be very effective this season, and that it's quite possible his best days are behind him. I don't see the type of work ethic from him that leads me to believe he'll maintain his body well enough as he ages to remain in peak playing condition. Jerry Rice and Darrell Green are examples of guys who worked tirelessly to stay in good playing shape; and they didn't take nearly the punishment that a RB does. I think our RB talent is strong, even with an injured Portis. And I agree with G Tripp, we don't have a top 3 RB tandem here. But what we do have is a scheme and an offensive coordinator capable of producing a top 3 ranked running game, even though the RBs at his disposal may not be LT and Turner. Of course we'll need a healthy offensive line to make that happen as well.

I know Portis will be fine in time for the season. I see him still getting 1400+ yards this seasons and 13+tds and Betts with 750+ yards and 6+ tds.

While that is true. Portis I think (and hope) that he returns to his 05 form. you are right, he doesn't seem to work hard enough to stay in shape. But now I think he is starting to realize it with all the Betts talk. And I think once he recovers from this tendonitis I think he will work harder to stay in shape. At least he better. Cause he is only going to be 26. If he actually gets that work ethic back. He could still be a dominant force for the next 10 years barring injury. But you are right Schneed he has to get that work ethic back.

Re: Portis' Tendonitis Returns
Shit, everyone else is losing guys for the season and now we get hit with CP and tendonitis. Now I have to downgrade his butt in my fantasy draft. It could be nothing big, could be a ruse, but could be a season long thing. Can't take a chance. Damn I was going to draft him #2 or #3. Might still take him as a my backup though. My draft isn't til August 30th so I will know more then.

Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
no big deal. one day, at the start of the season, he will wake up and say " im 100%" and everyone will forget about this

Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
Its training camp and CP is not into camp, practice, or the preseason so this might be overblown by CP to avoid too much practice in this heat. I'll start to worry when he cant play in the regular season.

Re: Portis' Tendinitis Returns
CP is pretty vocal about his stance on camp and preseason games, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if this latest knee tendonitis is very minor.
Regardless of the severity of the injury, you can bet the coaches and medical staff are going to be overly cautious with him to avoid a repeat of last year. |
