Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
From memory I think it was San Francisco in 05.
There's no question that Moss would be a bigger loss than Portis. Our roster is built to sustain RB injuries, but our depth is so lacking at WR even with Moss in the lineup it's hard to imagine us really threatening to stretch the field. |

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
This week is a classic example of everybody needs to step up and pick up the slack for those who can't play due to injury. I think Moss and Portis will play, maybe not the whole game, but just their presence will help. I expect a big game from someone we wouldn't normally count on, I just don't know who yet. Maybe it is Lloyd, maybe Betts or the Rock. Our D has to be solid though. We can't get into a shootout with this team, we just weren't built for it.

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
We need to win against Detroit and it doesn't matter how.
I do not expect this game to be a "breakout" game on offense. It's hard to have a breakout game without two of your starting o-lineman, and possibly two of your starting offense weapons. What I hope to see, is an offense similar to the end of 2006. We'll try and shove the ball up their throats, and pray for turnovers and plays on special teams. This is a very winnable game, but we'll need to control the clock. I'm really hoping we can pull a close one out, because I really don't think they're is any other way to do it. Godspeed redskins. Prediction: Redskins 20 Lions 17 (OT)

I agree! To be realistic these days a great day would be 28 points scored! and a solid victory would be by only 10 points...don't remember the last game we dominated and won by more than 14 points. This is the new reality of where we are...It does not mean we don't play well!

If Moss can't go I think that's a bigger loss than Portis.
Betts is a more than capable backup, but we have some serious question marks at WR behind Randle El. I hope Caldwell is ready to go and can give us some meaningful snaps. |

I always figured that the offense would get a lot better once he picked it up, but it looks like this could be a very lackluster year for Moss. With Cooley and Randle El out there, we should be alright, but Campbell will struggle this year if he can't find guys open ever.

Take him away and all of a sudden teams can put their #1 corner on Randle El. And perhaps the bigger question is who steps in and scares anyone at the #2? Caldwell? Lloyd? Thrash? Yikes. |

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
Randle El can get deep, but obviously losing Moss would hurt since he's one of the best deep threats in the game today. Also, it would be nice if we could get Cooley more involved with the passing game and less involved with blocking.

Unfortunately this is the nature of the beast when your offensive line takes hits with the injury bug. So if Moss dos not play, you might as well say that 2 weapons are neutralized, Moss due to injury and Cooley beacause now he has not our running routes, he is protecting Campbell. To win this game the Redskins have to have a very effective running attack that consumes the clock and keeps the Lions offense off the field. |

Everyone wants the Skins to put up the ball 50 times "open it up", when that has never been the Redskins style of winning football games. Run the ball effectively, chew up some clock, take some shots down the field = W Oh yeah, and the defense needs to do it's part... |

Re: Can the redskins beat the lions without portis and moss
I dont know that having portis or moss would make a difference. With those two playing we haven't been able to score enough points. Everyone keeps saying its the Lions, we will beat them no problems. While the die hard fan in me wants to believe that we can and will beat them, I have my doubts. the Lions have 3 to 4 receivers that can get the ball and Kitna is playing pretty good. Now you add Kevin Jones to Tatum Bell and that is a pretty decent 1,2 punch. Offensively they move the ball and put some points up. If we sit back in the cover 3 crap and dont blitz and apply pressure to Kitna they will eat us alive. It may not be big plays but they will methatically move the ball down the field.
offensively if we dont get cooley involved with some balls down the middle of the field our receivers will not get open down field on the outside. We will need to score a minimum of 28 points to keep this close, and I just dont know if we can put that many points up. we haven't put that many points up in quite a while. If we can get a decent run game going early i think those big plays down field will open up for Randel el, Reche, and maybe moss if he plays. I would like to see some of WR screens we use to run so well. Detroit plays somewhat aggressive and that could be a big play if executed. go SKINS!! |
