I would disagree. CP is not in shape. He has proved that in the first few games of the season. In fact, there are other players who are not in shape as well. As much as I love Coach Gibbs, maybe he is being too soft on the players.

Don't get me wrong. I love CP. I wear his jersey on game day and so do my kids. I do not want to cut him I just want to see him focus more Monday through Saturday and not just on Sunday because that ain't working for him right now.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

I think alot of it has to do with the nature of the positions too. Alot of Jasons extra work, I'm sure is film work and just learning how to play the position of quarterback....its really not that difficult to learn how to be a good running back, you either have the skill to do it or you dont. I really dont think Portis' mistakes up to this point could be corrected by any extra work (not saying he shouldnt put in extra work, but hopefully you get what I'm saying)....

The Failure rates for QB's are so much higher than RB's that you almost have to put in that type of work to be successful..

Unless someone sneaks into Redskins Park we don't know what he's doing or not doing through the week. I wish we would stop speculating on crap like this.

Maybe because I am in the local area I hear more of the stories about how Portis does not work hard on the practice field. I am just getting tired of hearing about it while his playing sucks.
Do you really think his "terrible play" is attributed to him not practicing 2 days in a row until recently or perhaps 2/5 of the starting offensive line being injured and another 2/5 have all of 8 weeks next to each other?

If Betts were tearing it up behind the same offensive line with the same play calling I would see it a little bit more, but our running game is piss-poor as a whole, I don't get why Portis draws so much of your venom.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Not venom - just constructive critisim. I don't see a need to apologize or defend Clinton if he decides to talk trash and not produce on the the field on game day.

The local coverage here does give practice reports. There isn't that much speculation about it.

Re: Portis Interview on Fox

One thing I do agree about questioning is whether we should be giving more work to Betts. I think Aikman made a good point that right now Portis is lacking something. If his knee is not 100% I wish we would just sit him down for a week or two, or at least give Betts more work.

He might be limited in practice but that doesn't mean he's twiddling his thumbs at Redskins Park and not putting in any work.

Some days he doesn't dress out until just recently.

In reply to your previous post about giving Betts more work. I agree but I also think we should continue to give Sellers more work.

The reverse play was a bad call but I don't blame coaching on the loss. I blame the players. We should have been running the ball up the middle with the lead we had in the game. With the field conditions it was not time for a fancy play.

Honestly, I think Portis' production has been good considering the state of our O-line.

Great analysis from Aikman again. The only problem with Portis is that 60% of his offensive line is missing. Changes your effectiveness when you take away half the field. I mean, to run to the right, we need to be in a strong set to the right, and we need to pull our starters from the left in front of him.

I am glad most people are not overreacting. Portis needs to just needs to focus. He has a decent amount of TDs this year, last couple games these fumbles have hurt us.

I think his production is also worst because of our Oline.

True the offensive line is more of a worry than CP. I just hope his heart is in it. John Riggins asked the question today on his radio show, "Is CP done? Has he seen his best days already?" I think because CP does go hard in games his running lifespan may be shorter than others.

Winning cures everything.
