Re: Freeing up a roster spot
Personally, Im sick of this whole so and so is in the coach's doghouse argument, I think its crap now and I used to believe it. Exhibit A: LaVar. LaVar was my favorite player, and I jumped on the whole "he's in the coach's doghouse" crap, but the fact of the matter was, LaVar wasn't that great of a player. He had a bum knee and he didn't follow his defensive assignments, so he got benched. Exhibit B: Adam Archuletta. Some said he was in the coach's doghouse, so they benched him. Truth of the matter, Adam Archuletta sucks, which is why the Chicago's injury riddled defense just benched his ass. If a player can play, and wants to play, then they are put in the game. Lloyd just doesn't care, he made his money and now he just doesnt' care, so he doesn't perform to his highest level.

As far as bonuses go - I wish that teams could go more of the route of performance bounses instead of signing and roster bonuses, but unfortunately the agents (at least the good ones and not idiots like Ricky William's who was a rapper that signed Williams to a performance driven deal) will make sure their clients sign deals that are heavily dependent on signing bonuses and roster bonuses. Since contracts are not guranteed the agents demand that the player get signing and roster bonuses that are more easily achievable because history tells us most players never get to see the salaries in the later years as they will become cap casualities. Unless a player rengotiates his contract like many of the Skins players have the salaries in the outyears of the contract will almost never be achieved - it is rare and I thought Shawn Springs was pretty close to being cut because of this but the Redskins had no other alternatives so they kept him at his high salary but I would not be surprised to see them ask Springs again to take a pay cut and if he doesn't next offseason he may be a prime canidate to cut. Hence this is why I like the draft outside of the 1st round - you can sign players to 4-5 year deals with relatively light signing bonuses - so if the player does not pan out you simply cut him and your cap hit is not that large. Just think with the 3rd and 4th round pick the Redskins gave the 49ers for Llyod they could have used on a couple of offensive lineman to provide some depth. If you don't think you can get a decent lineman in the 3rd or 4th round think again - we got Dockery in the 3rd round and he turned out to be a descent player for the Skins. How about the TJ Duckett trade - you think we could have gotten a couple of lineman from that one too? Just venting now - hopefully the lineman will come back and we roll off a ton of wins to reach the playoffs. |

B. Lloyd is not presently the risk Moss is. It's the wrong time to be getting rid of him. |

Re: Freeing up a roster spot
We're stuck with Lloyd on the roster until the end of the year unless he gets a legit injury. If we have to cut someone at WR it would unfortunately be Caldwell at this point.
I don't think we're much worse off today than we were a week ago on the OL which is not to say we aren't in bad shape. We can't run the ball very well. The Thomas injury was devestating although the severity of it got swept under the rug in the afterglow of a road win at Philly. Thomas makes our running game go or he at least gives it balance. The running game kind of went in the dumper after Thomas got hurt against Dallas in 2005 as well. So, no matter what combination of players the coaches go with, I think the best we can hope for is to limp along trying to steal games with our defense until Thomas hopefully returns healthy for a (very) late playoff push. It's a giant shit sandwich and we're all going to have to take a bite.

Who is "were"? You are either motivated or NOT at this level. Which one is Lloyd? Do you think we will see this BIGGER roll soon as we dump his NO GOOD ASS at the end of this season?
