Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
There has been no bigger reason for the defensive turnaround than the play of the defensive line. They have been outstanding.
Their weaknesses are being masked potentially by the scheme, but more likely by the overall talent they are playing with. We aren't playing with a weak link on this defense. Carlos Rogers has had a GREAT 3 game stretch. Landry doesn't really look like a rookie at all. A smart offensive line and running scheme COULD exploit some weaknesses in the DL. Carter STILL takes himself out of a lot of plays. Daniels is playing well, but rarely are teams testing him. No one seems to run to our defensive left. It's not like our defensive line is invincible. However, since no one seems to know how to attack it, offenses spend most of their time getting attacked. Eventually, teams will figure this group out, but if the offensive line can get healthy before then, it won't matter if teams figure out they can run the ball on us. Expect New England to attack with the ground game early, but to get away from it before they figure anything out. Teams with a lot to lose tend to go back to what they are good at real quick even if they feel they have something when it isn't producing immediate results. Good thing they won't be able to throw on us.

Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
You sound like a dallas fan
Cornelius was playing sunday while his wife was having his baby 15 tackles 4 assists and 2 sacksdoes not seem to lousy playing to me QUOTE=12thMan;368151]I've been wondering about Griffin for some time now. Not to be reaching or just trying to start another thread, but is it me or is it that he's just not that much of a force in the middle any longer? No, I'm suggesting the Griffin is horrible, but he's not making his presence known in the middle it seems. He's probably still regarded as our most steady defensive lineman, but I often feel like teams tend exploit us up the middle or to the left side of their line. Thoughts?[/QUOTE] |

im just gonna say im very impressed with how well the D-line has played all year. i was sure the line would be the main problem for us this year and apparently i was wrong. so big ups to all the dudes in the front 4 for proving me wrong.

Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
I Believe they have done more with the four man front than they did last year with so-called blitzes that got them nowhere but pass completions against them.
This might be a case of his not being called a measure of his efficiency. Of course, we all do get old (see: my wife), and at some point we need to be put out to pasture.

Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
Hate to bring this thread up...again. But it looks like Griff is hurt again, may not play. Seems like he's nursing some injury more than he's in the lineup.
I think he's on the bubble next year. |

I would be shocked if Skins actually release him - even tho I expect Skins to find a replacement for Griffin and use Griffin as back-up..

Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
He'd be an awfully pricey backup. He'd have to pull the classic Redskins-veteran-contract-restructure-move in the offseason if that was to be the case. I agree that he's definitely on the bubble. Too injury prone. When he's 100% he's dominant. Problem is it's been a few years since he's been close to full speed injury-wise.

Speaking of Golston, he's been quiet lately hasn't he? I suppose that's only because Montgomery has entrenched himself as a starter, which is a good thing. I have to admit, I never thought we'd be secure in the run stopping department with Griff and Monte. But they've made a liar out me. Still, I'd like to see one more young stud at DT waiting in the wings once Griffin bows out. |

At some point in the next two years, we should add some more youth at the DT position, but we can survive another year or two with Griffin.

Yeah, I agree. If it was up to me, I'd say get a DE opposite Carter, or maybe a corner. But then, we have needs on offense too -- O-lineman, wideout. |

Re: Cornelius Griffin: Do You Feel He's Not A Force Anymore?
I do agree to a point here on Griff. I don't feel like he is getting that much pressure up the middle to help our D ends get some sacks or really good pressure. That being said I think that Griff is doing an amazing job on run support. He is occupying blockers and making the running backs bounce to the outside where our very fast and very efficient linebackers are there to bottle them up. Griff might not be having a great season stat wise, but he is helping.
