There actually were some rumblings back in October about a trade being made for Hall. It wasn't on the Redskins side though, the Falcons were trying to push it.

Who did they want in return?

I would give up a second rounder for DeAngelo Hall.

Re: My Redskins Wish List

Second rounder for a proven starter? Yeah, I'd be fine with that. The guy is still relatively young.

Re: My Redskins Wish List

On Offense: Grab a young QB in the later rounds, sign veteran backup; Cut Lloyd, Get a solid #2 to take pressure off of ARE and allow him to play in the slot; Resign Kendall to a modest contract, draft depth for O-Line

On Defense: Draft/Sign #1 CB to replace Springs; draft/sign pass rusher(s); new safety, whether to replace Taylor or Landry (if Landry takes over Free Safety spot)

Consistency is the key. Do not rock the boat too much and upgrade where needed.

Howie's boy Chris Long will be a top 5-7 pick...

Anyhow, 2007 aside, let's assume for a minute that it actually matters who is on the roster, here is my wish list for each position in 2008

QB: Keep Campbell as the starter. He's on the verge of greatness. Say thank you to Brunell and Collins and send them on their way. Draft a QB later (6th, 7th round), and pick up some veteran free agent to be a #2. For a minimum salary

RB: It's fine, leave it alone

TE: It's fine, leave it alone

WR: Love Randle El, but I bump him back down to #3 receiver. I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Caldwell when he's out there and I think he should be at least the #2 WR on the team. If not for the public relations nightmare that it would be, I'd say put Moss on the market and see what you can get for him. But that would be a pr disaster so he stays. I like KM as the #4 for a veterans minimum. Might be time to say thanks and see ya to James Thrash

OL: Major changes needed here. Firt off, I have no problem with the opening day lineup we had this year (Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, Jansen). But we need some young depth, besides Heyer. I use our 2nd and 3rd round picks on an OT and a G (Eric Young maybe?)

K: Bring in competition for Suisham. But I like him

P: Not happy with Frost lately, his line drive punts are killing us. I want a change there

LB: Rocky and Fletch were great this year, and Rocky at least seems to have a long, bright future with us. A little worried about Washington's injuries. I like the depth Blades gives us. But Khary Campbell is a special teamer at best, and Godfrey-while effective-isn't the long term answer here. We need OLB help. Of course Briggs is the popular choice, but I'd like to see us make a run at Karlos Dansby

DE: Two words: Justin Smith. 'Nuff said

CB: Based on the available talent at the free agent and college level, I think we should draft a CB in the first round. Depending on where we draft, either Aqib Talib or Antoine Cason.

S: Laron Landry is a lock to start. Starting next to him I'm still kind of big on moving Springs there. This is all dependent on a.)if we keep him, which I hope we do, and b.)if Rogers is healthy to start the season. If Rogers isn't then I'm not keen on moving Springs out of a CB spot

So, to summarize:

Subtractions:
Brunell
Collins
Thrash
Frost
Daniels
(among others)

Major Additions:
Talib/Cason
Two Offensive Linemen from the draft
Justin Smith
Karlos Dansby
Late round QB

Well, those are the moves I'd lean toward making. How about you?

I'd like to see us shoot to get Donovan Darius on the team for the rest of the season and next. Sign him to a 2 year deal so we have veteran status at the FS position.

Too much money for an overrated cover guy. He's worth a 2nd, but not a 2nd and 60 million dollars.

He'd be the number one on this team, so we'd have value there, but we'd have to pay him like an elite, Deion Sanders type player. Hall isn't even close to where Deion was at this point in his career.

Hall is to corner what a lot of people think Lloyd is to receiver: overly talented, but the results are a mixed bad. In reality Lloyd isn't quite that good, but the fact that I can draw a parellel between Hall and Lloyd means its a bad idea to give a 2nd for him and then pay him.

Re: My Redskins Wish List

I may be in the vocal minority here, but I think staff changes are needed. After 4 years I don't think we are where we should/need to be. If this was 2 years ago and we were whipping teams early and losing leads late then I'd say we were learning to win. 15 2nd half leads lost since 2004, 5 this season. We're heading the wrong direction and need to make a change at the top. I think Saunders needs to stay for Campbell's continuity/development but other than that, the rest need to go.

Personnel wise, we need playmakers thru free agency or the draft at DT, DE, CB.. Go get D. Hall if the price is less than a 1st round pick.. I think Landry will explode next year to soften the loss of Taylor so a rangy-coverage FS (moving Springs?) will be fine. I'd like to see some competition brought in for Washington, I think he's nearing the end due to injuries..

At WR I think we're ok for the most part because Saunders offense doesn't rely on a stud WR, but Cooley needs to take the next step up to become an elite TE.. Our OL, when healthy, is solid but we need to develop some young depth.. QB & RB we are fine..

Cooley, I believe, has established himself as an elite TE the best he could. We need a big weapon at WR and Campbell to better himself in order for Cooley to become even better. Defenses are covering Cooley because he's basically the only weapon we have on offense due to Santana Moss's injuries this season. Campbell's play has been nothing but average, I believe...if not below average. 12 TDs, 11 INTs. Too many turnovers.

RE: Campbell improving- If he works as hard as he did this past offseason and improves by the same measure, we'll be more than set at QB. He's still so young and he's making some boneheaded throws. But he does have us in position to win. He'll work hard this summer and get better. Have faith.

I do believe that. His play is elevating, it's just not at the top yet. He's still got plenty of time to improve. Until then, our WRs need to get a top notch weapon to help him out a little more. If that means moving Randle El and Lloyd, then do it. Randle El is one of the top paid players on our team, there's no need for that.

As a Hokie & skins fan you might think that I would want a Hokie pro-bowler to come to DC. I do, but not DeAngelo Hall (or Vick, but that's another story).

That dude is bad news, that's why atl. was looking to get rid of him. He's a great athlete & will tackle hard too, but he's known for his selfishness & poor attitude. Not a team guy at all.

somebody compared him to b loyd - that's accurate only Hall can actually play.

In 2003 VT had a talented roster w/Hall, Kevin Jones, Lee Suggs, Earnest Wilford et al & were ranked as high as #3. The team fell apart & the defense totally tanked in some games.

Some people I know that talk to the coaches regularly said that Hall was a big part of the problem. He goes to the nfl a year later & in 04 the team improves by 3 games & loses to undefeated Auburn (w/JC at qb) in the sugar bowl.

Please Gibbs, learn from the Loyd signing! (not that there's any indication that the Skins are interested in him)
