Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
Unleash the hounds on Hasselbeck! EVERY QB is prone to making mistakes every now and then, and given our track record the last four games, the man-to-man coverage on the ends and steady, strong pressure up the middle have been winning us ballgames. When you introduce the likelihood of a soaking rain, which will be much worse of a slopfest than it was at FedEx against Dal, you'd have to believe the Hawks will be forced to keep it on the ground more than they're comfortable with. Negate quick dumpoffs by Matt H and avoid zone breakdowns in the secondary, and we should have as much fun as we want blitzing and bruising our counterparts.
I think if we're smart, we'll pick up on the wet forecast and chase 'em like bloodhounds. |

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
It is important to always make an offense one dimensional. It won't be so hard to make the seahawks do this. We need to come out early and stuff the run. If we establish that they can't run on us we will then be able to defend the pass. An early lead on offense would be really important to causing this. They are a good passing team. its not like we can stop them from passing. However if they concentrate on the pass, so can we. We can stop them if we know they are passing.
Later in the game it'll be important to tease them and make them want to run. Maybe keep 5 guys in there but leave everyone else in coverage. Dare them to run but it will be important for us to stuff it. Our D-line is up for a really important performance. If they stuff the run like the past few weeks, this game is ours. |

Folks, Matt Hasselbdck is still a very good NFL quarterback. This guy is very much a rythm oriented passer. If he finds his groove early, he can present some problems for us. On the other side of the ball, the first time Todd Collins get's sacked, Quest will be going nuts! This will be a tests of tests for our guys. Either way, I damn proud of 'em. Damn proud to say I'm a Redskin fan. |

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
We gotta blitz sparingly, because if we give up big plays early we can't control the game with our rushing attack.
We also need to mix up zone and man, or else Hasselback will pick us apart. We also gotta come out really fired up cause their guys will be better rested.

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
I'm concerned about how we beat them on O. They have a good core of linebackers, two of which are going to the Pro-Bowl. It's going to be tough to defend that pass rush too. The O-Line, Samuels in particular, will have to step up.
To beat the Hawks we'll have to a) run up the middle, b) run some draw plays, c) run some shovel passes. Once we get the running game going it's going to be easier to throw the ball against their solid secondary.

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
All we gotta do is play with a lot of intensity and heart. The skins have gotta be pumped up for this game. We haven't made any serious noise in the playoffs since I was born for chrissake. It's a golden opportunity here when we have a team we can definitely beat in round one (Seahawks) and a bunch of pansies coming round two. Sorry, but as long as all the fans wear those Jessica Simpson masks Dallas won't have a chance! haha...
But seriously, I think we have a great chance this year, we've just got to do what we've been doing and believe in ourselves! Our D has been phenomenal and I dont think that well have a big problem against the Seahawks. Lets just play ball and roll right through em'.

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
Hasselbeck worries me - he is an excellent veteran QB that makes very quick decisions, which makes it difficult for the blitz to arrive in time. For that reason, I see Williams employing the Cover 2 that we ran against Detroit and GB early in the season, forcing Seattle to go to the underneath stuff. I just hope that we don't position our LB's 8 yards off the line of scrimmage as we did in Cover 2 earlier. With the way the front 7 is playing, I'm pretty confident that we'll stop the Seattle running attack.

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
I know what we can do. We can bring Ade Jimho back. Dude had a career day against the hawks. But seriously, if GW gives Matt H. some different looks, with bodies flying all around, and mad heart that would make Sean T. proud. We should be fine, because Matt H. doesn't get that kind of stuff playing in that moist-ass conference their in.
Thanks Matty for keeping 05 hawks and Skins in the Film Room. We could all do some research and just study that game. |

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
I wouldn't be suprised at 1st down 8 man fronts.
Hasselback is good but, eliminating a guaranteed 4 yard 1st down run is critical. We want them one dimensional...and there is no way they will give up the pass...no way. Hasselbeck would kill a zone...I expect a lot of man coverage with a deep help if possible. ...BTW, our corners can easily man up on Bobby Engram and company

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
Hassleback is alot like Romo as far as avoiding rushes and making quick decisions, but I don't think that their receivers are as good as dallas'. Their good, don't get me wrong, but not T.O. good. Their rushing attack isn't what it was back in 05 when we played them, but then again alexander was knocked F-out in that game so that is a moot point anyway. The one key to this match-up to this game compared to 05 is that the Skins are not as one dimensional on offense like we were. Our offense is starting to spread the ball around to different playmakers. But, to sum this up we are playing like a total team with heart and something to prove.

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
Thing is Seattle hasn't faced a physical team quite like the Skins this year. Understand, we play in the NFC EAST and that can't be taken for granted. No offense but they've played the Rams twice and 49ers twice this year.
Samuels and company have faced the best defensive end duo twice this year (Giants) and pretty much shut them down and did the same with Trent Cole from the Eagles. Also I'll take DaMarcus Ware over Patrick Kearney any day of the week, and Samuels had a pretty solid game vs. Ware in the final game. I think top to bottom we've faced more than Seattle just from a competitive standpoint this year. I really think this game is going to boild down to a test of the wills as much as physical talent. |

Re: How do we play Seattle on D?
Carlos killed us in 05. Im pretty sure he was the one who dropped a pick that hit him straight in the hands. He coulda easily returned that for a TD and changed that game completely.
