Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
Outside of Chris Long (who will not be available) how many game changing DE's will be available at #21? Gholston is small and could very well end up as a 3-4 OLB, same with Harvey. Campbell is bigger and a definite possibility, though I'm not familiar with his technique and I wonder whether I guy with that kind of frame will move up the draft board if he impresses in post-season workouts. It's all a crap shoot until we get to the Senior Bowl and combine anyway.
Point being, Jared Allen (who is too expensive and won't be available) and Justin Smith (who probably will be and might be cheaper than he would be otherwise given down production last year) are available in FA. If they could get Justin Smith he would provide a solid player against the run who can also get to the passer. Then they could target a CB at #21. Leigh did play pretty horribly in coverage last year, but I'd be surprised if he didn't at least make it to camp.

Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
Somehow i doubt we're gona just flat out release jansen. Isn't he signed through next season? Anyway, if he is then i think a trade would def make sense, we could probably get a 4th or 5th rounder for him.

Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
He's signed through 2011. He's got a big cap number next year ($8+ mil) and a higher release fee ($10+ mil). Though I'm no expert, I suspect that it would make much more sense to restructure his deal and kick the can down the road.

Here's a good math question: how many beers over what period of time does one have to consume before Brandon Lloyd becomes a better football player than Jon Jansen? Also, how long does that person have to live?

Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
we need pass rush and the DB's will play much better. i think the only way we draft a cb in 1st is if talib is on the board at 21. other than that we get the best pass rusher available and then start to look for a playmaking wr and oline

Yeah...I think you're right. Heyer could be coached up, in my opinion, to play as well as Jansen...the problem lies in what people already said. It doesn't make money sense to unload him now.

Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
((TO, this post is NOT aimed at you, but the original poster.))
vague rumors about things of small importance. here's my rumor: you might have a good day today. yeah, that's right, but i'll be laughing at you when you question me and it turns out to be true. how about something we haven't already heard before? (we knew rogers was probably going to be week 8 into next season, and for that reason, springs was probably coming back, we knew GW was the most likely choice, and we knew macklin spent 16 games on the bench. torrence is a who cares player, so his employment is always questionable, and a stunning revelation that saunder MAY OR MAY NOT be back (way to pick a side)). the only news is GW might want to draft a db... i think that's kinda dumb since NA and trufant (and dom foxworth as a RFA) are available, and good DEs aren't (well, a couple old guys that aren't world beaters). I still stand by trying to get a WR and CB in FA, drafting a DE (or kenny philips), then getting an OL or DB with that 2nd pick (seems to be the value right now). I mean, in the second round we might be able to get guys like: a bowman (WR) s slaton (RB) c henne (QB) a talib (CB) cromartie (CB) c nicks (OT) justice (C) that's good value. |

Re: **Rumor** about GW, Rogers, Jansen
AMEN!!! I've been saying that this has been the biggest personnel philosophy mistake during Gibbs 2.0 - The FO has built the team from the outside in. The great teams of Gibbs 1.0 inherited Dave Butz, and were built from the inside out, drafting May, Grimm, Manley, Grant, and Mann early on. Add in great undrafted FA acquisitions like Bostic and Jacoby, and great interior line play was the heart of three Super Bowl Champions for a decade.
