Yeah that's my understanding as well. Seahawks tried to keep Zorn badly and offered him more money but with the skins this was too big a promotion to give us. He choose to leave his home town and team he played for to come here and make this offense great. That's exciting stuff.

and hopefully this offense will get great gas mileage too,and not be too bogged down like it has been.

I agree, and to piggy-back just a little on your concept, I'm sure during the course of the interview process, various things were discussed. Jim Zorn is well aware of Jason Campbell's strengths' as well as his weaknesses, and feel he can work comfortably with him in whatever area of his game that needs atention to bring about his desired result. If he didn't think he could work succsssfully with Jason, I don't think he would have taken the job. There are various versions of the WCO that can benefit from Jason's big arm as well. |

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
Right now the limiting factor is Campbell. He is so slow with the ball I hope its not a problem with this new offense.
Saunders would have added a modern touch to the offense but Gibbs wouldnt let him because he was stuck in an 80s style O that was too run focused. |

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
Saunders offense too complex and dated. He didn't make his reads in time or know where to go with the ball. JC clearly needs to work on his check down reads you're right. He's going to be fine.

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
AS's O is complex but not dated. Its Gibbs who was dated by wanting to run first and pass second. The NFL is now a pass first run second league but Gibbs was too conservative to let AS do his thing and modernize the O. Actually, Giibbs himself said he needed to modernize the O which is why AS came here in the first place. Too bad Gibbs wouldnt let him.

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
The funny thing is our highest offensive ranking under Gibbs this time around was when he was calling the shots in 2005 (11th overall). IMO we would have been better off if Gibbs just stuck with running the offense himself.

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
Maybe. Remember in 06 Portis was hurt and in 07 the line was injury riddled, IMO that does not provide the formula for a successful run first O. I think in the end even had Gibbs turned AS loose the Skins just didnt have the talent at QB to really make the system work.

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
No doubt. That was his M.O., he was a master at putting together an offensive scheme (but I can't overlook how the injury bug just seemed to kill us every year, we are due for that bug to get outta DC). I was very disappointed when he brought in Al to take over what I thought was his strongest asset in football. Of course I'm not taking away from any of Joe's other strengths as he has many.

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
The whole reason Dan is bringing Zorn in is to develope JC. I'm still not sold on how good of an OC he will be, but I did think it was time for Al to go. His sytem has worked great for other teams he has coached, but not so well in Washington. I think he tried to hard to adapt Jason to the sytem and not a system that fit his players.
Sure hope the westcoast O works for us, need to find a big and strong reciever to go with S.Moss and El and I hope it is Randy Moss who Danny Boy and his fluncky Vinny C. can get. |

Re: Jim Zorn will be great!!
I'm optimistic too. After all, it's the postseason. But doesn't a rookie offensive coordinator favor Fassel or Mariucci as a head coach, rather than Meeks, Schwartz, et al.?
