I hope we don't see more of him on TV...I personally thought that he would stay on and keep playing for the Giants for two reasons...

1) NFL Dental Plan
2) Child Support Payments

Zing!

I'm out bitches...

Good for him. I'm glad we're not going to face him again, but the Giants still have Umenyiora, Tuck, and Kiwanuka. That's a nice trio of ends (although I'm not sure if Kiwanuka will line up at LB or DE).

CBS TO MAKE A BIG PUSH FOR STRAHAN?
Posted by Mike Florio on June 10, 2008, 10:12 a.m.

At a time when many assume that Giants defensive end Michael Strahan will land with FOX, a media source has shared with us rumors that CBS wants Strahan badly.

At CBS, Strahan would join the pregame show, and he likewise would also be a fixture on Inside the NFL, which will be produced by CBS Sports and which will air on CBS-owned Showtime.

The thinking is that Strahan, James Brown, and Phil Simms would be the primary lineup on Inside the NFL.

As to the CBS pregame gig, the person who should be the most nervous is Shannon Sharpe, who clearly is the weakest link in that specific chain.

If Strahan supplants Sharpe, he’d be the second former Giant to send one of the Sharpes into unemployment. A year ago, Tiki Barber’s arrival on NBC’s Football Night in America resulted in Sterling Sharpe being displaced.

Meanwhile, another source with a certain amount of reliable knowledge regarding the situation tells us that our speculation regarding the possibility that Strahan would return to the Giants is on the mark. “If they were to pay him, he would go back,” the source said. “Their idea of taking care of him was $6 million. That wasn’t his idea of it.”

This thing would get very interesting if the Giants were to make a run at Strahan after he strikes a deal with CBS, FOX, or some other media company.

Fear not, you now have Umenyiora, Tuck (the REAL MVP if XLII), and Kiwanuka to give you nightmares!!!!!!

My two best Strahan memories happened during his last game.

During a pre-game team huddle he gave a little pep talk, "Everybody is talking about their dynasty. Well, OUR DYNASTY STARTS TONIGHT!!!!!"

After New England went up 14-10, he was on the sidelines talking to the OLine, "The final score is going to be 17-14. Ya' hear me? SEVENTEEN FOURTEEN!"

Re: Strahan Retires.................

Tuck is a dominant pass rushing end, and we all know how good Uminoyra is doing. I think the Giants will miss Strahan, but even without him, I still think they have the best defense in the NFL, fwiw.

I do think it will be their offense and special teams that will prevent them from repeating as SB Champs.

I find it hard to say the Giants have the best D in the league considering their secondary. Top 10 D no doubt, but tops in the league?

In terms of yards given up the Giants were just slightly better than the Redskins last year (305 - 305.3), and they were actually worse in terms of points given up per game (21.9 - 19.4).

I think tops in the league. The Giants had a bad secondary through most of last year, but outside of Sam Madison (who is probably a liability at this point), they were a young, vastly improved team in the playoffs.

Based on what I know about young defensive players, the Giants are very likely to carry that performance into this season. Undoubtably, they performed better than any other defense in the playoffs last season, so thats my basis for thinking they are the best team this year.

Anyway, Eli's maturity is probably for real, but even so, it's hard not to think that he was playing totally over his head in the playoffs. He'll be better, but I don't think the Giants will seperate from the pack offensively.

No way. The Giants had a great playoff run, mostly due to Eli not turning the ball over. Playing the Bucs - no offense, Cowboys - 2nd year of playoff chokes or Jessica's Curse, Packers - Favre back to his old "INTs in critical situations" ways, and Pats - NY played a great game.

Statistically NY was pedestrian or worse last season in Pts Allowed, Yards Allowed, Yards per Play, Turnovers, Passing TDs (12th not bad), Rushing TDs. They were first in sacks, but don't underestimate the attention Strahan brought, allowing Osi & Tuck to get favorable match ups. With Strahan's retirement, I guarantee the sack production falls out of the top ten.

What has NY done to get better in the off-season on defense? They drafted Kenny Phillips who will take a year or two to learn the NFL, another DB in the second and a couple of LBs. No major FAs unless I am missing someone. Strahan is now gone, Madison is a year older and slowing down.

Without digging through depth charts and stats, here are a few teams that are outright better on D than NY: Steelers, Bucs, Patriots, Chargers, Cowboys, Packers, Eagles, Jaguars, Colts.
