Yeah but you're from Baltimore, we expect that type of behavior.

I agree that it is about good judgement, and that stature has made these athletes constant targets, but you have to remember that these are young guys who go out, wanting to have a good time. Prior to having lots of money, this is probably the type of life they were living. Vet or rookie, famous or not, most people want to have a good time. If he chooses to spray the crowd with Dom P, and make it rain with $100 bills to have a good time, then just so long as he isn't hurting anyone, or breaking team rules, so be it. It doesn't mean that this guy should be targeted, robbed and assaulted (I know that isn't what you're implying). You make these comments now, but just a little while ago when Sean Taylor was ruthlessly murdered, several people in and out of the media said that he had it coming for returning to Fla. and his past encounters, etc. Darrent Williams shouldn't have been targeted either, its just people with envy and jealousy targeting these guys. That shouldn't stop them from having a good time. |

Re: Javon Walker found Unconcious, Robbed in streets of Las Vegas
He didn't deserve it at all. But he's got to use more common sense. If one of my friends got shot in the neck and died in my arms I probably would never ever go to a nightclub ever again. But that's just me. Apparently the dude is buying 15k worth of champaign and spraying the crowd with it???? I mean why is he doing this? Why is he acting like this?? You know someone got pissed and someone ran up on him and beat the shit out of him. Would you see Jason Campbell, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Tomlinson doing this? No. Again he didn't deserve this. But if you put yourself in this type of position, spraying people with champaign, then you're only asking for it. I hope he's OK.

Are you familiar with Zach Sowers? He was a friend of mine, recently married, who was beaten into a coma. He passed away this year. His crime was walking home alone from a bar in Baltimore. I don't claim to have any solutions, but I do think we have to take pause when we all start blithely accepting violence as a regular fact of American life. |

Re: Javon Walker found Unconcious, Robbed in streets of Las Vegas
This clearly isn't an act of random violence, he was a target. No matter what happened that evening, he certainly didn't deserve or ask for this result. I hope they catch the perps. Update on ESPN:
Walker remains hospitalized Tuesday after robbery, beating ESPN.com news services Updated: June 17, 2008, 9:01 PM ET Javon Walker Hospitalized After Apparent Robbery LAS VEGAS -- Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker remained hospitalized with a concussion and a battered face Tuesday, one day after he was beaten, robbed and left unconscious on a Las Vegas street after a night of partying. Police said a large amount of cash and some jewelry were taken from Walker, who suffered "a moderate concussion and significant injuries to his face." Police Lt. Clinton Nichols said detectives are retracing Walker's activities in the hours before he was found injured Monday morning on a street off the Las Vegas Strip. Hashmarks On Walker If you compare the Javon Walker story to that of late former Denver teammate Darrent Williams, there are some sad similarities, Bill Williamson writes. Hashmarks "We don't believe this is a random act," Nichols told the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that police believe Walker was alone at the time of the attack. "They knew who he was and [Walker] presented a target. "We did get a surveillance [video] of a vehicle and suspects that may have been involved. We know there were suspects, possibly two [but] we haven't identified anyone yet." According to the Chronicle, Walker told police he had about $3,000 in cash and $100,000 in jewelry stolen. The jewelry included a watch, a necklace and earrings. According to reports published Tuesday in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Walker visited a nightclub, Tryst, at the Wynn Las Vegas resort on Saturday night. He spent Sunday night at another club, Body English at the Hard Rock hotel-casino, before leaving about 3:30 a.m. Monday, according to casino spokeswoman Dorian Cantrell. Javon Walker Highlight NFL.com Video Javon Walker 72-yard rush for touchdown. Cantrell said there were no reports of a disturbance at the club. Nichols said detectives spoke briefly with Walker on Monday and planned a second interview Tuesday evening at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. A Raiders spokesman said the team was in the process of gathering information and had no further comment. On Monday, police officer Bill Cassell said in a statement that Walker was taken to a hospital with "significant injuries" and was in fair condition. Walker, 29, signed a six-year, $55 million deal with the Raiders after being released by the Denver Broncos in February. Walker injured his right knee for the second time in his career last season and was limited to eight games and 26 catches in 2007. Walker sought a fresh start after Broncos teammate Darrent Williams died in his arms in the back of a limousine on Jan. 1, 2006 in downtown Denver. In a 2007 "Real Sports" interview, Walker said then teammate Brandon Marshall and his cousin exchanged heated words with two men who later confronted Williams and his group after taking offense when Marshall sprayed them with champagne. The drive-by shooting remains unsolved. Walker was a first-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2001 and had a breakout season in 2004 with 89 catches for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns. He tore a ligament in his right knee the next season and played only one game. He was traded to Denver in 2006 and bounced back with 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns.

Re: Javon Walker found Unconcious, Robbed in streets of Las Vegas
I was just in vegas last week, and at no time does that place slow down. there are always crowds of people no matter what time. I was out every night unitl 4 or 5 and one night until 7 in the morning. The streets are always crowded with people. there is more to this story, and we may not find out.
Athletes have to understand this. They are targets because of the money they have. They are stupid to walk around with $100k of jewelry wrapped around them, and walk around alone. He was only carrying $3k in cash, that isn't a ton of money to carry in vegas, but you could get robbed for $100 bucks. I still want to know where he was when he was found. My guess is that he was in one of the shady parts at a strip club (imagine that!) and got jumped. I dont know of any clubs on the strip that would allow someone to shower the place with Dom. Basically, these guys have to be smarter than what they are acting. |

Re: Javon Walker found Unconcious, Robbed in streets of Las Vegas
Bottomline is that Javon is well within his right to go partying until 6AM and act like an idiot spraying champagne wearing $100K in bling and not change his behavior based on what happened recently to his friend.........and I am well within my right to not feel one bit sorry for what happened to him.
I'm not saying he had it coming at all. But there's a reason normal people don't fan $100 bills while riding on the Metro... if you do, you're going to get jumped. Javon's story this morning is that he was in his hotel room (probably knitting a sweater and answering fan mail) when he got jumped, robbed and then the robbers dumped his body outside in the alley. Yeah...uh huh. No video coverage in Vegas of this? Right.... My spider sense tells me this is not a random act. It also tells me it could have been avoided. |

So the latest rumor is Javon Walker and Floyd Mayweather got into a Champaign spraying contest in Vegas. Things got of hand, and Walker got rolled by some of his boys. Story has it Mayweather himself didn't
re-arrange Walker's face but some of his flunkies may have. |

Its because normal people don't have $100 dollar bills to throw away. Look, I believe everyone is entitled to a good time as long as it doesn't break any laws, or hurts anyone. The guy went to Vegas. Not to sit on his ass in a hotel room and watch TV, but to go out and have fun. If this is his way of doing so, then so be it. You are allowed to go out to clubs and do as you please without anyone harassing you because you aren't a target, a guy like him is. Does that take away from his right to spend money as he wishes and spray the crowd with Dom P? No. Finally, I went to school in DC where shootings occurred at clubs on more than one occasion. Did that stop me from going out? No. I think y'all are being to hard on the guy. Athletes go out to clubs and bars all the time, and incidents don't occur. J. Walk was unlucky, and I think its unecessary for you guys to say that these guys should stay home or stay away from dangerous places (where isn't dangerous nowadays?) so stuff like this won't happen |

Re: Javon Walker found Unconcious, Robbed in streets of Las Vegas
I don't think anyone is being hard on the guy. Times have changed. People are greedy.
Lesson 1: When going out don't take a lot of money. Lesson 2: There is a reason people don't go out in swim suits. People don't like to get wet or ruin a nice out fit with Champaign. Lesson 3: Don't go out alone and don't piss off your designated friend. Lesson 4: If...If you have to take a large sum of money...don't flash it. It tells everyone your loaded and raises your chances of getting jumped. Lesson 5: Always keep an eye on your back (and your friends) Lesson 6: Don't wear expensive jewlery. (this should be #1 or #2) Now if Mayweather was supposed to have his back and then allowed his posse to jump him would be kinda "Itty-Shay". |
