Here are his career stats. They're actually not that bad, but like I said he isn't 100%.

I'd rather roll with what we've got and not pick through other's trash.

Like someone already said, we could bring back Smith if we want an old, washed up DE.
In the 90's, Gibbs took a chance on an older D-lineman with a history of bad knee's: Jumpy Geathers. Jumpy ended up being a valuable contributer to the 92 super bowl team. He played as a 3rd down situational pass rusher only. His knees were so bad he could not practice during the week. The coaches were scared of losing him everytime he went out on the field, so they did not let him practice to much.

Brackens is just 30, I am not sure it is fair to compare him to a 40 Bruce Smith just yet. Unless Brackens knee's or any other essential limb is blown out, he might be able to be a good part time player, like Jumpy. We have to many run specialist DE's on our roster. We need at least one more DE that is a pass rush specialist. IF (and only if) Brackens passes an extensive physical, he might be worth a look.

we have enough 'veteran' pass rushers at the tail end of their careers, another one won't increase our sack total. we know who to call if one gets hurt though.

next season we need the best PROVEN youngish free agent DE available. period. a high draft pick is no guarantee. anyone know who's contract is up?

Whats up with Jermaine Haley? He's been quiet throughout the preseason. Has he even played?

Brackens is injured RIGHT NOW. He hasn't been able to prctice with the Jags. That doesn't sound like a guy Gibbs would snap up. I think Williams feels pretty good about the D, but you never know...

Brackens has had some great seasons, but he tore his calf muscle this summer had his right knee scoped (again) this past off season and had his left knee surgically repaired before last season...given the status of the Jags d-line I would imagine they have been hoping to bring him back, but it looks like he's done.

Ade can rush the Passer! In kazahkastan, Jimoh means "bring the heat."
