Shit. I guess Carlos will have to handle Braylon Edwards, which he should be able to do. Leigh Torrence on Dante Stallworth I guess. If neither Springs or Smoot see the field this Sunday, Tryon (gulp) may get some time. Again, we MUST pressure Derek Anderson.

I see something in our future... drafting a CB with our first two picks.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what high-level CBs will be free agents after this year?

We should have signed Deltha O'Neal...

Springs again, I can't take it anymore. He's a big corner to not a little guy. Pussy Pussy Pussy thank god Los has become a terrific corner. Horton is hurt he's playing Los is hurt he's playing, but both the little babies springs and smoot out again. That means Torrence allday.

I agree that the DB's are a much bigger concern. We really need to control the ball on offense, and FINISH drives with TDs. I expect Portis to be fine, but I really hope to see more out of the passing game. Cooley has been our only consistently productive threat, and that needs to change this week.

i agree that all the corners hurt is a concern, but if portis cant play then we have alexander fresh off the street, and rock to run the ball. then they can play our passing game more and make prove we can run it with those two.

Re: Concerned about Portis's injury?

Anytime a running back has an injury below the waist, it is reason for concern.

Portis is obviously a tough guy and a fierce competitor, so he will play through pain no matter what part of his body is affected. But if he has a real injury - as opposed to a really bad bcruise that causes a lot of pain but nothing more than that - in his hip, it is a bad omen for a running back.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a bad omen. A hip flexor strain is not that big of a deal. I've had one before and it bothered me for a week or two, but it was really just a little nagging ache, nothing more. If it was a knee I'd be much more concerned.

GMScud:

Agree completely that a knee injury would be a whole lot worse than a hip flexor. So would an ankle or an Achilles tendon injury... But a hip flexor injury can - when it is favored even a little bit - lead to another minor injury and those things can then begin to pile up.

I'm not saying that WILL happen, but running backs have enough opportunities to incur injuries without adding a weakness in the hips/legs - - which is where they make their living.

Very true. Everyone says "hip flexor" when referring to an injury. Actually, everyone has hip flexors. They are a group of muscles that attach to the hip and femur. So it's really a hip flexor strain. Chances are Clinton has a grade 1 sprain, which usually involves some stretching of the muscle but no tearing, and a few days of rest with ice and other treatment is sufficient. A grade 2 involves tearing and usually requires a few weeks of recovery. Grade 3 is the most severe and involves a complete tear, which would be season ending. I'm not an orthopedist, but I use Google and I stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night.

Once you get into week 6 or 7 of the NFL, most players are dinged up one way or another. Clinton should be fine. He's tough.
